Read this thread yesterday. Today I'm out riding, notice some vultures on the road so I slow down a bit and pull in the clutch and as I get past I release the clutch and go for some throttle and realize the bike has died.I coasted as long as I could. I'm not too mechanically inclined but remembered reading something about pressure in the gas tank (maybe this is not true for GS's?) so I opened the gas cap reinserted the key in the ignition and it fired right up. You guys seem to be talking about bikes not starting as they are sitting so suspecting the battery seems reasonable but how about bikes dying while going down the road like the OPs and mine?

I have read about problems with the lithium Shori batteries. I think what most people have in mind who suggested a high cranking power battery is the Yuasa 14 H BSX. have quite a few problem free miles on mine. Dave

So far I've been able to make every FI bike I've ridden or owned stall at some point. It seems like there's always a weird combination of throttle moves/engine revs/engine inertia that will make it happen.

Yabutt once above crawling speed it seems to indicate something going on. I was not crawling.

So I don't directly relate the stall to the no-start.

I put 250 miles on the bike Sunday. Failed to start twice. Each time it took around 15 minutes to find the magical method that would start the bike. There is some loose wire or short somewhere. I called the owner of BMW in Jax and he said they would figure it out. Fun, fun, fun....

In a way I wish mine would fail repeatedly to make it easier to identify the fault. It's only failed once and now I have the notion it might die while out on a trip or in heavy traffic. Please keep us posted on results from the dealer, I need clues.

I'm bringing it in tomorrow and leaving it there until they figure out what is up. Letting it cool off seems to help. Holding the starter button down for 30 seconds got it started once but didn't the second time. I will post results and thanks to everyone for all your help.

Hmm, no one has mentioned the HES. That is always the first thing that comes to mind with intermittent ignition problems.
