I just posted LA-B-to-V Rider Instructions 2012 for day of event:

These are different from the Rider Packet. These have mileage information on them and important cutoff times.

So, how's this spark arrestor check work? I've got a street legal bike (HP2 Enduro) with a Remus can that the previous owner put on. I'd never given it any thought until today, but crap ... no spark arrestor. I can stick a clothes hanger all the way through. It does have a cat, which should stop sparks, but a bit of googling tells me that this argument probably won't fly with Forest Service.

I have no time to fix this before the event, and I can't put the stock can back on. Please tell me I'm not screwed.

I'm probably screwed.

(Note to others: this doesn't mean lacking the arrestor is OK. It sounds like this kind of thing is decided on a case-by-case basis. The BLM guys still require a USFS spark arrestor.)

you're fine. the cat would prevent any sparks. when the Forest Service sees your street bike, they won't even bother. some aftermarket exhausts have a spark arrestor at the front of the muffler. FMF and Big Gun and others put theirs on the end.

Everyone really needs to pay attention to #9 on Day 2 and pass the word. Last year there must have been 7 or 8 groups of riders that blew past us going 60+ on Lovell Canyon Rd.

Thanks, RAZR. That's pretty much the impression I got. It's not technically OK from what I read, but it slides 99% of the time. Good enough for me!

I'm used to New Mexico rules ... which means pretty much anything goes. :-)

been hanging around socal the last few days. you guys have so much riding here! now I know why every bike I see has a big tank. hard to choose where to start

I may have an extra bed as well as floor space at The Orleans on Saturday night for those still in need. Will be getting up at the butt crack of dawn Sunday morning to ride home.

Quick question... thought i read somewhere about a "chase vehicle map"... do they give us a map for our chase vehicles at sign-up??
