Discovered this sorta on accident and posted over on the D37 forum - figured it might help some riders here as well. For the folks using a Trailtech computer with a roll chart:

Anyone that has tried to follow a roll chart with a Trailtech computer knows its a bit annoying. At every reset point, you need to hold down 2 buttons for 2 seconds to reset your trip meter - pretty much this means you actually need to pull over and stop a fair amount of the time.

Well a few weeks ago the battery on my unit went belly up. Wasn't a huge deal since I'm wired into the bike's DC power so it still works fine while the bike is running, it just shuts off and resets the trip/TT/etc. whenever the engine is off. I figured I'd replace the battery but haven't gotten around to it. A few days ago I had the bike apart checking connectors and tightening bolts for the LAB2V when I thought of a great idea. I rerouted my Trailtech power from the bike through my headlight switch. Now to reset my trip meter I just flip the lights off then back on. I still have to tap the mode button to see the distance display since it defaults to the screen with everything highlighted but that's a big improvement IMO. I'll post pics when people aren't sleeping so I can start the bike.

So every time you shut off or stall your bike it goes to zero?

Yeah. I don't crash or stall too often so just have to get in the habit of looking at the miles before I stop for a break. Could solve this by rigging it to always be on the bike's battery via the switch if I had a battery on my bike. Of course that would mean you'd need to remember to turn it off overnight so you don't drain your battery. The odometer doesn't reset, must be on another battery or something.

The Trail Tech will basically go to sleep if it doesn't record mileage. It won't kill most batteries.

That's an excellent point. Makes the idea even better then.

Just do a fat skid at every reset.

It wasn't very nice of him to post that picture on here. He's a big tease.

There is a dude that will sell you whatever you want, any time you want it, just down the street from your hotel. Behind the Del Taco. I heard.

Welcome to the AV! 3rd St East and Palmdale Blvd is another hot spot for a midnight score.
