maxium xj700 carb swap?

I have an 88 xj700 with the cheap knock off carbs and was wondering if there is a popular mikuni or keihin retro fit off another bike.

This is a good question that might get a better response if posted at the xjbikes forum. Lots of good folks there with some serious knowledge of this nice Yamaha model line......

If it's an XJ-based engine, early 750 (SOHC) Honda carbs will work with a bit of massaging. There's an article from an '83 edition of Cycle World on the XJ CD that details what it takes to install them... and it ain't much work.

PS- what sort of "cheap knock off carbs" are on the bike now?.

you could try the Mikuni carb block of an fj600 or the like. still CV but probably better. might just bolt on.
