Your trip report is excellent and really shows what a guy can do with some courage and colones. You really brought it. Nice job, Good Sir!

Poolman,

A little late reading your report, but I really enjoyed it, reading how you overcame the obstacles and most of all your photos, especially of the wildlife in and around you.

Great report!

grizzly,

I think you would have an awesome time in Costa Rica... The mountains, volcanos, cloud forests, beaches, wildlife, great food, and welcoming people all make CR a great destination.

Cheers,

.

Bike rental question?

Wife rides TW. Vertically challenged, but an excellent rider!
Going to Costa Rica over Christmas, would like to rent bikes. Smallest one on Wild Ride website was a 250 Tornado, seat height of 33. TW seat height 31. She can ride the Yamaha XT250, which has a seat height of 32.
Any suggestions? Dying to ride in Costa Rica!
Don't flame her for being short!

Hi mightys4,

I'm glad you enjoyed the ride report and pictures. I think Costa Rica is one place where it is hard to take a bed picture!

Thanks for the kind remarks,

.

I like when this stuff pops up. I would like to know if there is a rental down there for a jeep or bug. My wife elect rides, but I don't know if I should take her to possibly get hurt. I was thinking rent a jeep for a week.???? I know, bad question on a bike forum, but she is not a real good off roader on the bike.

Hi EdHill,

I'm sure you and your wife will love riding in Costa Rica! I ride an XT225 at home and understand the comfort of being able to dab when needed or paddle through the really slimy stuff. I actually booked the XR250 Tornado because of it's low 33" seat height, and you can imagine my thoughts when the only bike available was a DRZ400 with 37" seat height.

The trip turned out fine though, and my only off had nothing to do with the height of the bike.

In my opinion Mrs. EdHill should be fine with the XR250. The weight of her luggage (even a 45 lb dry bag) will likely bring the seat height down to the 31" or 32" she is accustomed to. Plus, the XR is narrow and feels very light, which will likely instill confidence.

Have a great trip!

Primate,

As exotic as Costa Rica may sound, the airport in San Jose is more modern than many I've been to in the USA and Europe. In fact, many of the restaurants and rental car companies you see in US airports have locations in San Jose as well. Hertz Avis, Budget, Thrifty, etc. all offr rentals at SJO.

Like you, I am sometimes apprehensive about exposing my family to excessive risk when far from quality medical care. Maybe you can rent scooters when you get to your vacation spot? Regardless, I think you will love Costa Rica!

Cheer,

.

FWIW....Wild Rider in San Jose rents jeep type vehicles. In fact that's the bulk of their rental business, I think. You can rent a jeep for the wife to carry all the shite, and a bike for you.
