It just appears that way, I'm not sure there's any difference really. The Honda seems a bit more refined, at least that is the illusion that comes across. I don't know if it's engineering or marketing, a bit of both I suspect. The execution just seems different, good or bad, don't know.

Early first-hand reports indicate the 500cc bikes look good, considering the sticker price.

Since these are aimed at new/old/budget riders, maybe Honda are taking a slim margin, with the hope of hooking 'em in?

I have no evidence to back this up though

Considering the sticker price I guess my Ninja 300 is a great bike too? I'd rather it was just a great bike despite the price but it isn't.

For what it's worth, NC700X feels twice as well made (and a lot more expensive) then my ex Ninja 650R... and they cost the same.

Thanks for the videos, scooterspirit. I'd love to see a more detailed look at the manufacturing. Has anybody heard whether the 500 twin has roller cam followers like the CBR250R engine?

I saw one "first look" report that indicated it did and was based on the 250. I don't remember where I saw it and these "first look" reports often contain errors so......

Isn't the 250 a sohc vs the 500 dohc?

Oh, there's a pic of the dash on the 'Innovations' page.
Ok, so if that luggage will fit on the F, it should be mountable on the R as well, right? Is there any reason they couldn't?

Depends on what they built and if it even comes to the USA. The Ninja 300 actually happened so it is my bike for the next 2-3 years for better/worse.

I believe the Honda site describes the valve train as shim under bucket.

Navin,
Why do you keep bring your Ninja 300 issues up in a 2013 Honda CBR500 and CB500 thread? If I wanted info on the Ninja 300 I would go to that bike's thread. I want info on the new Hondas here. So please STFU.

I found my answer:

Quote:
The 500cc engine are expected to run on 4 valves/ cylinder- DOHC layout along with other technological innovations like a spiny cylinder sleeve for better heat dissipation and roller rocker cam followers.
I should have googled before speaking.
