Picked it up in '99, all original, with 16 original miles on it. Still had the factory lithium grease on the chain.

Came with a set of Toomey's (not installed at time of this picture) and a few other bits and pieces. Spent some time talking with a guy down in Florida (forget his name now) that specialized in RZs, and bought a jet kit he put together for me to augment the Toomey's and Y-pipe intake/K&N. Then some more time getting everything dialed in... Great little bike! I haven't ridden it in years now, since moving on to other interests, but it's still a very nice bike...

But, I get your meaning... I need to get a ride on one of these 300s... Then again, maybe I don't...

Oh please tell me it has more than 19 miles on it now?

this says that it's a comparison, but it's really about the cbr250. Does say a lot of things about the ninja300 inadvertently. I find the new 300 pretty fascinating and I'm interested to know how many miles navin will rack up on it.

It's all good. And the 390 Duke looks really promising; if it pans out, I know where my money will be spent.

Renazco Racing front/rear. +1" front, extra tall in the front. The bike just took a massive leap up on the comfort scale. With my SV racing rear swets the fit is perfect.

Great work once again James!

Navin one last question, is the speedo far off on these things? Like is 80 really 75? So when we were talking cruising speeds on the other thread, were we talking actual or speedo or are they far enough off to even worry.

I have the 15t front sprocket and the speedo is now correct to 90 MPH, GPS confirmed. Stock gearing it reads high, that's why some are claiming it does 118 MPH, .

If you are close to NJ you can ride mine.

I think I've been pretty honest about its shortcomings. It has its flaws for sure, far from perfect. I've tried to address them as I wanted a different bike than they built. At the least, I recommend the tapered roller bearings in the steering head and the 15t sprocket. The rest of it is quite competent. Add tires if you plan to flog it on twisty roads, others find them acceptable, I hated them.

Not the bike for everybody but the smallest do it all streeter IMO.

Ah as you know, no bike is perfect. I think this thing checks all my boxes, it's a Kawi first off, its light, sporty enough by my standards and overall seems to be able to do everything I need while keeping a good mix of fun and economy. Kawi should give you a cut, you are a good promoter. You seriously have sold me. If I can get the KLR cleaned up before the weekend I may stroll home with one Saturday. If not then def by the next weekend.

I think they'd like to ring my neck at this point!

If they put this engine in a package with adjustable, decent legs, good brakes and a few premium bits I'd have been happier but I have built it as close as I can get for now.

They are missing the boat not using this engine in a full series of bikes. The torque and gear ratios could power a decent all road adventure style bike. 8" of travel and 21/18" wheels and a different tank/seat and it would be better than the KLR IMO. It could have a 10k redline, that's where the stock power drops off anyway. It wouldn't be a wheelie threat, but it could be a great bike.

Pop in if you get one and give an opinion. I feel like the only guy here who bought one!

Already looking at parts...probably not the ones of the typical ninja 300 driver....but does this thing put out enough electric juice to run the Oxford grips with no issues? I vowed some time ago to never own another bike without heated grips ever again If it will do those and charge a gps or phone at the same time I'm happy.

I ran my Gerbings jacket liner and gloves while my 65w headlights were on without any problem. I had a heck of a time finding the stator output numbers. I can't find it now either . IIRC it was over 300w. You shouldn't have any problem.

Got one

Special Edition non ABS (I thought all special's had ABS)
It's not in the garage yet. I'm traveling 3 days next week and the dealer let me bring my KLR back home to strip it of luggage, electronics, custom seat etc so I can sell all that stuff off. So I won't pick it up till next Saturday. Can't friggin wait.

Alternator output listed at 294 watts, but rpm not specified - usually means at between 3k and 5k rpm.

FO SHO!

How are you guys breaking these things in? Anything special? Recommended oil? I've been running Rotella in KLR's for so long I've forgotten everything I ever knew about anything with more than one cylinder.
