Guzzi Convert or Keep the Buell S2
I like the older bikes, just more character. I have the opportunity to trade even for a 1976 Guzzi V1000 LAPD Convert bike with 23k for my 1995 Buell S2, 8300 miles.
I don't know squat about the Guzzi, but am interested in the Italian bikes. Of course Id probably "do my own thing" to the Guzzi, but nothing crazy. Is it a good trade? Just looking for some opinions and/or info on the Convert. Im guessing the value of the bikes are both pretty close to each other. Thanks |

A Convert is a totally different ride than any Buell, and even wierder than "regular" Guzzis. Some people like oysters; some like snails.
Have you ridden a Convert? It's like a 90-mph moped that weighs 550 lbs. Two-speed manual gearbox, hooked to a huge torque converter. You leave it in high or low and let the TC do the work.

As Fred says, a Convert is an oddball abong oddballs.
From the flywheel back it's a completely different bike than others of the era, if you want to do much parts-bin customizing you'll have issues. Blast from the past: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=301352

Your Buell has plenty of "character" and isn't getting any newer.

Having owned a G5, SP1000 Spada and ridden a Convert around the block, I'd say no. Run from it!
A Tonti framed Goose is a delight but not hooked-up to a Power Glide like tranny. ![]() Look to a T3 or better.

Riding a convert is like riding a magic carpet. Unbelievable city bike. I vastly prefer it to my others. Great handling. Last forever. Almost impossible to get them totally oil tight. Mine marks it spot when I park it. I use a tray in the garage... More questions, join the yahoo convert group:
