S Fairing Copper Grommets

I just got a Factory New S Fairing.

It has those copper grommets holding the dash on.

I want to pull that dash off to paint the fairing.

What's the best procedure for drilling them out and putting them back?

I've always just masked the dash off.

I'd like to get it separated to do it.

Usual method to remove is either a drill or dremel. You will need to hold the opposite side with pliers or something, as when you get about 1/2 way thru they usually start to just spin.

When putting it back on, you can either get replacment rivets, or as many have done, you can use short black plastic nuts and bolts. I used the black plastic screws on 2 that I have done, as well as on an RS and a couple of RT fairings. I like using the nuts and bolts because I can take it apart a lot easier if I need to repaint again, or to remove the dash to modify for some reason.

You use the screws to hold the winshield, fairing, and dash all together?

If they are copper rivets, you can cut them off with a pair of dikes. I mean diagnal cutters, not lesbians.
Cut halfway through, than rotate dikes 90 degrees and cut the rest of the way through. They will drop right out and you won't widen or damage the holes.

I've been cutoff by a few dykes "mid-pickup" if you know what I mean!

Thanx! The idea of drilling all those does sound a might bit tedious.
