Triumph 800XC vs BMW F800GS?

My apologies if this is a redundant thread, but does anyone have experience with both bikes? What is the consensus of opinion, particularly when it comes to riding dirt, gravel, and sand roads?

I have an F800. For me, I prefer it as it has better fuel economy (great for distance travel) and seems more capable off road. If I were only using it on road for shorter distances (or I were loaded!), I'd probably buy he Tiger.

After riding both, I chose the F800. It didn't feel as top heavy and also felt more fun when riding.

Same here. I really liked the Tiger, but it just felt a little chunkier. The power difference was considerable though.

Thanks guys. Seems like a win/win situation. On the used market the F800 seems a little cheaper because it's been out the longest. I'd probably use the bike for exploring some of our border area dirt roads in Texas and Mexico so the F800 is sounding OK.

Same here. Didn't like the fuel consumption of the tiger either. And I'm not a big fan of the triple sound either... it's like a wasp, can't imagine that on a long trip... and then there the service costs. The tiger is like 250$ for 10k service and 100$ for the GS, 450$ for 20k and 200$ for the GS.

I'd buy the GS again in a heartbeat. Love this bike!

Can't directly compare the Tiger 800XC (it was WAY too tall for me) but I did own a 2011 Tiger 800 (road w/ABS) for two seasons. I got rid of it at the end of last season and bought a 2013 F800GS to replace it. And that was really only because BMW finally offered a factory-lowered suspension version. I'm blessed with short legs, unfortunately.

I liked the Tiger, but what really bothered me about it was the tremendous heat the engine gave off. So much that on hot days it was downright uncomfortable to ride and I took my K1300GT instead (which gave off no heat). Plus the local dealer wasn't anywhere near as good as the BMW dealer and that makes a big difference.

I LOVE my F800GS!!! I do wish it had tubeless tires though, as the Tiger did.

Well fair enough the Tiger has a 19" front. The XC is like the GS 21" and tube type. The 700GS however is like the normal Tiger with a 19" and has tubeless. Sure you knew it but can be helpfull for a third party considering all 4 bikes.
