Flinders Ranges in September

A few South Australian members of ADV arranged to set up a base in Blinman, South Australia, in the middle of the northern Flinders Ranges, to ride local tracks, trails and maybe an overnghter to a remote location. Accommodation was booked for 12th-17th September.

The decision was made to trailer up a variety of bikes for the various terrains but some rode up, like tru adventurers.

Here's my lot of a Tenere, DRZ400E and my mate's (Bernie) WR250F and DR650......ready to roll.



Met up with PBee along the way and drove up together.....500 odd kms to go!!!



Arrived around 6 hrs later and unloaded the bikes...



Brett turned up after a day's ride from Adelaide and then made it over to the hotel for a pre dinner ale....



Met up with John and Steve, both English but John is living in Oz and arranged for Steve to fly in from the UK and they were both doing a 'lap'. We invited them over for a map session... also shared some fine South Ozzy reds with them....good luck on your trip fellas.



Loaded up the next morning for a run on the Public Access Routes just out of Blinman. This is riding bliss and can produce eventful memories for some.....

Back to the house for lunch and then out with the chain saws to arrange firewood for the night.....



Then on the big bikes and down to Angorichina Village in the Parachilna Gorge for a beer with the owner, Dave.





Then pre dinner beers around the firepit..before a BBQ and early night.

The next morning we had to find somewhere to watch the AFL final, so we tossed a coin and picked William Creek, about 430 kms away. Bernie rang and organised some beds and we were away. PBee on the 990, Bernie on the DR and me on the Tenere.

First stop was the Copley Bakery after a spirited run along the Beltana by-pass road, top up with fuel at Leigh Creek and a visit to an ATM!!



Stopped in at the historic Farina ruins and had a break...

Got to William Creek after some long stretches of gravel road and had the obvious photo taken....

After a great dinner with fine hosts we watched our team win the final (Crows) and then to bed. I slept very well, and I DON'T SNORE - no matter what anyone says...

BTW, this is the TV we were watching......look carefully, it's in there somewhere..



While this was all happening, both Doc (DRZ Walker) and Paul (PB49) arrived in Blinman having ridden from their homes and began to drink the Pub dry, or that's how the story was told to us later Doc!! Doc was on his way to Arkaroola and was gone by the time we got back Saturday..

Up early the next morning for us and had a great brekky of eggs, bacon and toast.....as well as a strong coffee..



Stopped off at Lake Eyre South on the way home....



Arrived back at base camp, all in one piece and after a fantastic two days out of town on a great ride..

That night at the pub we met some guys from NSW who were touring around on their big KTMs. We talked them into a lap of the PAR in the morning, and they were there on time ready to go..and could they go!!!

















Finished this ride off and said farewell to our new mates who were off on further trails of their own...enjoy fellas.

Started to load up the bikes and prepare for the drive home this morning. Had a few beers at the pub Sunday night and continued around the fire until late into the night and then to bed. Up this morning and cleaned up the house and headed off.

Five riders ended up on the ride and we had a ball. PBee has a heap more photographs which I'm sure he'll share with us..

Love the Flinders Ranges..

did you get some new pipes on the tenere Trev. not bad value hey, I got some Leo's for my 950.... luv em...

You can't get out of it that easily Paul, you have to contribute your part of the story too!!
