1981 KTM 250GS I think?

Howdy everyone, Just picked this up the other day, I don't know too much about early KTM 2 strokes but based on what info i can find so far on a few websites it appears to be a 1981 KTM 250 GS.

Most of the bits are there, the engie is seized though and it has this large chunk taken out of the fins

Can only imagine what happened there. This is going to be a long term build but wondering where the best place is to get advice on the rebuild? and of course parts! I'm going to try and source a replacement barrel rather then repair this one if i can.

Thoughts, suggestions, advice all welcome!

Let the process begin. You can verify year by frame/motor numbers on the POG site. Great bikes, I have one. How do you like your S10? I have one of those too, kind of a pig though off road.

Repairing the cylinder is easily done, you dont really need a replacement.

G'day Pete, Thanks for the links thats got me started, definetly an 81 model it seems. Yup i have me an S10 for another few days then its gettingswapped out for a Triumph Tiger 800XC. The S10's a great bike, it handles most roads and tracks pretty well and handles great on the tar. A bit on the heavy side but it hides it well. Only swapping it out as it's time for a change, and something with a little less weight and gizmo's will be nice too. I'm always worried something will go wrong and leave me stranded.

Twin-Shocker, glad to hea i don't have to source another barrel, can any good alloy welder fix these things?

I had a 81 495 once that looked just like that 250. 495 was neat but I got more trophies on my 420.
