Good luck finding the BCG. Or a barrel, for that matter. I've seen the expensive barrels in 223, but nothing in 300 or what I really want, 6x223 or 25x223.

PSA has mags for the CMMG 22 conversion, though, for $16.95.

Check out Palmetto State Armory...their stock has been increasing and hanging around longer as of late.

Steel AR mags $14-16. No Pmags, but they do have IMI polymer mags for 19.00 at the moment, IIRC.

Here's a newb AR question,

What is the difference between carbine, mid length and rifle length gas tubes. Other than the obvious short to long, is one better than the other, more reliable or better shooting? I'm not set on barrel length, although I think I want a 16" or 18".

Thanks

Put simply, longer is more reliable.

Longer is also generally more accurate at farther distances.

He's asking about the gas system length not barrel length, though.

To add what EvilGenius said, the longer the gas system, the softer it shoots.

For a 16" I'd recommend a mid-length system. For an 18", I'd go rifle length (there mid-length is also available).

Thanks guys. I'm trying to learn the whole gas system thing. My other guns use more simplified systems, bolt, blowback and revolver.

You'll hear people mention stuff like; Dwell Time, Over gassing, Under gassing, Gas port re-sizing, H Buffer, F/A & S/A Bolt Carrier, "pig-tail" gas tube and Gas Piston.

You'll inevitably get into other stuff like Chro-moly, Stainless Steel, Cold-Hammer Forged, Chrome-lined and Non-Chrome-Lined, Barrel Twist, Chamber, Barrel Length and Barrel Contour as well.

Direct Impingement is pretty simple, actually, with very few moving parts. As long as you stick with a reputable brand it should be fine. It will comes down to what you what to build (varmint, bench gun, competition, range toy, erc...) how much you want to pay and what's actually available. Most everything else will fall into place.

Try Windham Weaponry.

EDIT: They have some parts, but not enough to assemble the entire BCG.

Luckily for me, I'm about two months behind the panic "wave". In January every one went out and bought out all the lowers. Now lowers can be found but the upper parts needed to complete all the panic builds have disappeared. I'm hoping that by the time I get my lower assembled, the production of upper parts will catch up with demand.

This is a good site for finding parts,
