Arkapena Self Drive Tracks & Rawnsley Park

ARKAPENA 4WD TRACKS

Good fun on a bike, rough in places & some steep sections.
Any bike with a half decent rider will do it in about 40mins to 1 hr, they say it takes 4.5hrs+ in a 4WD
Great view from the highest point on the track, Prelinna lookout

Key is available at RAWNSLEY PARK STN for a cost. $45 for a 4WD, negotiate a price for a bike, I paid $20 & did 2 loops . It's a one way track so............ Hammer time...

Good accomodation at Rawnsley Park too.

Great pictures, you seem to have even captured the steepness of the track which usually doesn't come up in a photo, whats your secret?

I think if you use a reference point such as the hill opposite in the last pic it works.
That last photo does show steepness, a notoriously hard thing to get, sometimes I fluke something like that.
It's not that good a photo but it shows steepness
Also if you take enough photos you're bound to get something that works.

this has been awesome as will be going through there after the motogp then up to birdsville and back across to sydney.
Just one question, as I am trying to do as little tar as possible, are the roads from renmark to yunta (direct) worth a look or would it be better just to slab it to Hawker?
Thanks for any advice!

You don’t stop riding because you’re getting old, but you get old when you stop riding.

Yes. I would go thru Danggali CP. The station tracks are better than any slab.

Yes again, go north on the Arkaroola rd.
My preference is Yunta, Old Barrata HS, Holowilena, Warcowie then thru to Hawker.

I'll put up a map & stuff soon.

My shots of the same areas look crap compared to yours!! I must admit, when travelling I dont sit and wait for proper light etc - just pull up, point, shoot, get back on, go...

Nothing special, just take lots of photos & make an effort to stop when you see something.
Also think like a photographer, look at everything as a possible photo.

Entry to the Flinders from the eastern states.

YUNTA TO HAWKER

This is a scenic entry to the Flinders. Dirt all the way.

Turn north on tha Arkaroola rd.

Waukaringa ruins.

After Waukaringa turn left to Barrata HS. (47km from Yunta)

Continue on to the only gate at Old Barrata. Edit: New Cattle grid next to gate now.

After Old Barrata head to the Hollowilena T intersection & turn right, Continue on to Hawker
