Well about 36 hrs, to go and we will be leaving on our little SA adventure ride. I will try and keep this thread up to date and post as many photos as I can depending on the WiFi connections we get.

Cheers!

With JoDawg's permission, here are more pics from our trip.

More of the statue of El Parque del Amor.

Close up of the couple.

Miraflores' town logo. I think it translates to: In your Heart.

The entrance to the Inka Market.

Statue in the middle of one of the market areas.

They don't mess around when it comes to armoured vehicles. Heavy MB chassis with slab sides.

Obligatory ADV food shot. JoDawg's fancy dinner appetizer. Stuffed pepper.

My fancy dinner appetizer, catch-of-the-day Ceviche. With corn kernels the size of my thumbnail! Both of those shots were hand-held, with a crazy slow shutter speed, so I'm surprised that they turned out so well!

Casks of Pisco in the wine cellar.

Some wall art at our restaurant.

Today was our last day in Lima. We are staying in Miraflores which is on the northern edge of Lima and is the more affluent section of the city. We took a taxi into old colonial Lima this morning to the Plaza del Armes, which is the main square of the old town. The centerpiece of the square is the presidential palace. We were lucky enough to see the chaging of the guard. The President and a load of dignitaries were on the steps of the palace for some political event. Security was heavy with police and military guards every 20' or so all armed with AK's. They were most friendly and forthcoming with any information you asked for.

As in most third world countries the taxi ride in and out of the city center was pretty much a Nascar event! Three official lanes and six lanes of taxis and buses fighting for them all. Strange though with all of the chaos we saw no accidents although I thought we would be in a few. We have all the traffic laws in the world and I see more accidents at home then here.

Tomorrow we have an eight hour drive south along the Pacific coast to Nazca where we pick up the bikes and really start the trip. I have a ton of pic's from today but it will take some time to sort and post which I hope to do in the next couple of days.

Cheers
