post your holliday rental bike
hy lads ,
I've just returned from my honnymoon to santorini and Crete , and I've rented some stuff to visit the area with my wife I havent found a topic like this so here go's first thing we had a kym atv 200cc funny little thing never driven an atv before ![]() ![]() then it was this pgo 125 cc scooter we had it for half a day and brought it back: biggist peace of crap ever , you cant go deep enough in the corners without scraping the asphalt , and the pillion got a hell ride ( not the same as a hell of a ride ) ![]() so then we got this 600 cc suzuki freewind , it clearly had an accident with a previous rider , everything was hanging with threads, and the tires where completely wornout , the frontweel tends to loos grip when you lean in the corner so that was'nt much fun eather but hey it was an ADVENTURE [ RIDE(R) ] ![]() ![]() by the way riding in a t-shirt normally not my stile but on holliday you do stupid things |

R1200RT rented from Eagle Rider in Palm Desert, CA. I finally got to ride out west!
![]() ![]() Harley Road Glide Custom rented from Outer Banks HD, NC. The Road Glide was a lot better than I was expecting. Real nice folks at the dealership. ![]() ...but I did chuckle to myself when I first walked in and saw the dealership's theme! ![]()

BMW Rentals in Italy
I grew up in Italy and had a sweet deal when I went back in the summer until recently when the economy wiped out the BMW dealership in Terni, my former home town. My riding buddy bought cars and motorcycles there and when I'd come back for two or three weeks in summer he'd get me a rental for 30 euros a day, as he was a valuedc customer. As a result I got to ride som e pretty nice Bavarian machinery. A K1200R
It was a great ride in the Umbrian mountains but slightly overpowered on tour in Amalfi on the tiny coast road: The next year I got a K1200S which was a lot of motorcycle for me. Enormous fun and slightly overwhelming considering how easily it steamed down the autostrada at 125mph. But I did learn to enjoy it as best I could, all 170 hp of it. Gianluca at the BMW shop was responsible for these fantastic rentals. And in the last year before the economy sank the Terni BMW dealership I got my favorite ride of the lot, the modest (!) 110hp air cooled old fashioned oilhead twin: ![]() ![]() I have no idea how I'm going to rent something next year but I would miss out riding Central Italy if something doesn't work out.

Rome by MP3 250
In 2010 my wife and I toured Rome for three days by three wheeler. I had test ridden an MP3
at the Miami Vespa dealership but I wasn't impressed by the comeplexity. In Italy I saw a use for it on the lumpy streets of the Italian capital: ![]() Riding the rails and cobbles was easy. It also enabled us to keep up with the intense local traffic lane splitting wildly: ![]() A fine machine in its native habitat. ![]() We rode it into the Alban Hills and all around the city, out to Ostia Antica to see the Roman ruins and also the catacombs and the Ardeatine Caves. It was entirely too versatile. I was sorry to hand it back.

Lisbon Portugal. Rented this 650GS from MotoXplorers. great guys. Had it sitting at the hotel when I got there for the day. GPS was loaded with a good route to ride. Just a note though, gas pumps are not well marked, and the black ones are marked "GasOil" or deisel and the green ones are Gasoline. The opposite of the U.S. I won't discuss how I know that.
