This is all good and well that it can be done in a day, but to me you'll miss much of the beauty via that tact. We've done it 3x on mtn bikes and both directions and like to camp out either 2 or 3 nights and savor the place. Candlestick is our favorite campsite. Think about that for your second trip out there and enjoy the fast lap.

Well I am here. Gearing up and waiting for the sun to rise so I don't freeze to death. If any moab riders want to tear up some tracks I will be here all week.

You'll have a great time. We did it last weekend and the weather was perfect. One does need to keep moving to get it done during daylight, especially if the loop is ridden all the way from Moab. Have fun!

so I left around 9am. fueled up. was pretty chilly, in the 30s. I through a couple bananas and a can of progresso in my tank bag. anyway yadda yadda.

route I took

north on 191.
picked up rt 279.
I rode this until I saw the sign for jug handle arch
I made a right and took "long canyon road"

fueling up in town

long canyon

it was pretty damn cold at the top, like really damn cold. had to put 2 heat packs in each glove, still couldn't feel my fingers

took this all the way to 313, then went right to mineral bottom road.

watch for ice in the corners on mineral bottom, wouldn't want to slide off the edge!

then left on white rim!! well mineral sort of turns into white rim.

stopped for some lunch

lunch #2 miso soup and bananas

basically... id stop to take a picture and say "ok no more pics... *rides around next corner, jaw drops, takes out camera* ok just one more"

shafer was closed but I stayed on whatever road white rim becomes and made it potash which eventually turned into 279 by the salt refinery.

a great loop! ended up being 154 miles. I felt like I ripped through a lot of it though. still took about 6.5hrs. to the guy who did it in 3hr 45 mins he must have CRANKED!

I wonder how much, if any, of that snow has melted since the storm. I might be riding it this saturday.
Some of those switchbacks probably don't get much sun this time of year.
