Seat testing
Its pretty much winter here in Michigan, so its time to start performing all the maintenance and mods I want to do so the bike is ready for spring time.
The first thing was the seat. The bike came with the stock and a Rick Mayer. The Rick Mayer was nice but way too soft for me (I'm 230 lbs) and it locked me in one position, so I sold that. Next up I ordered up the seat concepts kit to put on the stock pan.It is much better and I could probably live with this but I don't like the fact that it is still sloped forward like the stocker. The most important thing to me in a seat is that it be flat and firm.I never seen one, but always had a feeling the Corbin flat would be a good seat for me. The other day another inmate posted a Corbin Flat on the flea market for a good price so I bought it. I received it today and installed it on the bike and guess what ? PERFECTION !!! For me, anyway. I am really relieved because I was worried I would not find a proper seat, but from here on out its a Corbin flat for me and maybe I will throw my Alaskan leather sheepskin over it also. |

very cool bike, why ? because you like it!!! that is the best part. I have a KLR and love it, some friends have GS's and don't get it why I love my klr, but I tell them, when you are worry about scratches I am not, if I drop it well nothing bad or too expensive will happened, if you drop it, it will cost you so until I am rich this is the bike I have! and funny thing one day on a 5 day trip, the guy with the 2012 GSA said to his brother, well look at damasovi he is coming along on that KLR and is having as much fun as we are!
Damasovi PD ALso my bike is paid for since day 1,

Cheap Bikes rule
I got into my F800gs because the only people that would take my Electraglide in trade were the BMW people and it is impossible to sell a geezer glide in CA without taking it in the shorts. The beemer is a great bike, but I wish I still had my paid off Wee Strom and my $600 XT600 combo.

Until I get a good check against the gps I wont know. I did compare the speedo to the gps on a few rides and it seemed to be about 10%. The 19" tire probably has a taller sidewall than the 21" tire,so that may make up for some of the wheel size. EDIT: Found a conversion calculator online and it appears to only be a 4 % change. I also remember the speedos are off anyway even with the stock wheel, but I believe the Odo is pretty accurate. So 4% seems right. GAS GUY screwed with this post 11-28-2012 at 06:12 AM |

If you are getting 53 mpg with the 705 kit that's pretty good. Welcome back to the sore ass club!

Probably more like 50 or 51 mpg, because of the 19"front wheel.Still good, but I am not thrashing it.

have fun on your KLR, you've definately simplified by going that way. And I have an 1150 GS and an F650 Dakar. I'm in your neck of the woods. Feel free to PM me if you ever want to go check out Windigo or ride the Trans-Taiga or James Bay. Second: This is complete and shameful hogshyte. An OEM KLR clutch lever for, say, a 2004 KLR 650 from Bike Bandit (you have to look under Kawasaki, then ROAD bikes, because it's not listed in the DIRT section)
An aftermarket lever for the F650 can be found for under 8 USD. But thanks for the hyperbole.
