WEDNESDAY 28 AUGUST 2013

This morning I broke camp and am heading North towards home.

I am currently taking a break in Berea, Kentucky.

Wow, its getting hot out here.
I guess summer is finally here.

Finally made it through Cincinnati, Ohio.

I got caught in rush hour traffic at 5:30 !!!

Cincinnati can be brutal !!

Saw a Tim Hortons sign and am getting refueled.

Hopefully Dayton, Ohio is cleared out by the time I get there.

My favorite time of the day

Probably every serious rider has one.

This is mine.

After a long hot sunny day of riding and feeling a little frazeled and I am heading home to see the family with a couple hundred miles left to go,with the sun setting on my left and the air starting to cool and become refreshing along with a visual softening of the surroundings, this is a special time.It doesn't get any better !!!

Sold V-Strom for KLR

I did the same thing a few weeks ago, and I'm glad I'm back on the second KLR I've owned.

The 2011 650cc V-Strom is and awesome bike, but I needed to get back to simple once more, and it opens up a few more trails for my riding style up here in Western Canada.
I'm doing the 705 kit this winter for something to do, and the feed back sounds good from what I've read on line so far.

I'm looking forward on hearing more info on this kit idea, and who handles it down there since I order all my stuff out of the USA anyways.

From Don in Western Canada.

About 11:00 pm I rolled into the driveway at home with about 600 miles for the day.

It was another awsome KLR adventure with perfect weather for 5 days,7 states and 1,800 miles.

$112.00 for fuel
$65.00 for Camping
That's alot of Adventure for $177.00 !!!!!

Tomorrow morning I am going to ride into Northville and get a proper coffee @ The Tuscan Cafe.
Its hard to get a decent cup of coffee on the road once you have had the good stuff.
If any local Advriders reading this thread ever want to meet up there for coffee let me know, its my new coffee hang out till the weather turns bad.Often I ride up there after work around 3:30 pm during the week also.

On my way home after leaving Stecoah, I ran the Dragon again which is the best route to get around the Smoky's taking 129 North up through Knoxville to I75.

As I came to the Scenic pull off at the end of the Dragon, I saw an impressive KLR sitting there so I pulled over to check it out.

The bike belonged to an older local gentleman who was passing out cards for US129 photos.com which is one of the 4 photographers set up along the Dragon taking pictures of every bike as they pass.
Then you go on their website and find your picture on the day you went through and can order it.

The original, KillBoy is still there, along with Tail of the Dragon and now Moonshiner also.

Anyway, as you can see, his bike was nicely set up.

A 2012, which I love the black wheels and fork along with the frame.

He also had the small 7 1/2 wide Happy Trail boxes which I also really like.

And it had a Sargent seat on it which he let me sit on and I really liked it also and may try one in the future.
A long day in the saddle will be the true test.

He was very knowledgeable and we had a pleasant conversation with him sharing lots of KLR experiences as this was his 4th and he has rode in all 48 States and halfway through Mexico.

He built the custom crash bars on it also.
He did a nice job.
I have close up pictures I can post up if anyone is interested in seeing them.

Lol , Thats cool you know him, small world.

Yeah, I definately liked him.

Hey, whats his name again ?
I forgot already, I'm bad with names.

Next time I get down that way I will have to get in touch with you and maybe we can all do some riding together, and maybe I will take you up on the offer for a place to stay.

KLR Feaver !!!

Thanks Gas Guy. I just got back into the dual sport world 3 years ago, and I teamed up with the Alberta Dual Sport dudes, "ADS."

This will be my 5 bike since returning, and I'm glad to be back on the K.

I found my 2011 model used with 2900 kms for under $5000 Cnd funds, and what a thrill it is to be on my second thumper.

DRZ 400 mod and KLR to soon see the same thing happen in the off season.

Thanks for the heads-up on Eagale Mikes, and I'll be in touch with them after the long weekend.

Thanks again G.G. And good job on the thread.

From Western Canada Don.
