Fall 2012 RedNek Rendezvous Big Bike Tracks

This is a squiggly loop that touches Northeastern Vermont, Northern New Hampshire, and Western Maine. The basic tour is big-bike friendly, but is also a hoot on a smaller machine. The basic route is about 75-80% gravel interspersed with some very choice pavement. It is about 350 miles all in, and can be completed in two good days. I've run the major portions of it solo on a KLR650 and a DRZ400. The hero sections were plotted on the DRZ and partially run later on a KDX200. As I write this, there are no restrictions or other limits other than having a plated and inspected dual sport. To the best of my knowledge, this is a completely legal route accessible to any dual-sport bike at the time of this post.

An image of the entire route, with "hero" loops:

About 200 miles on gravel and some very sweet pavement. Fall Rednek Day 1 Filtered.gpx. This is a file that has been filtered, but assumes you've worked with this stuff before. A very remote section.

The second day. About 150 miles of mainly gravel/forest roads. This is engineered to be ridden with an early start, for riders who need to be back to "the city" for work the next day. It's good.

This is a fairly hard-core loop on class 6 CCC roads that haven't been maintained in many years. It's a hell run on a KLR60, but can be done by a seasoned rider. It's much more fun on a light bike. Water, rocks mud, and some steep downhill. I recommend it be run counter-clockwise. Although it's short, it takes about an hour. In wet weather, it may be impassible to large machines.

This is a variation of the previous track, which starts uphill up some rough, rocky class six and leads onto well-maintained gravel and a short section of pavement with spectacular views of Willoughby Lake. It turns onto "Mud Lane" near Job's Pond in Newark, VT. Although the mud lane section is posted, and has a warning sign at the beginning, it is still a town road and thus open to the public. Simply stay on the right-of-way A sharp downhill section leads into ledges, large rocks and mud bogs. I dropped the KLR here, and it took me some time to get it righted. It may be better run uphill, that is, from the junction of 105 westward.

Gee Canuman, this is great! Are these tracks plug and play? I have a 60csx.

Anyway, I'll download them over the weekend and fiddle with it on my mac. Maybe I can find a camp on a Friday night to do Saturday and Sunday loops without hauling everything with me. I could probably do it the first weekend of October.

Thanks so much!

Oh - I see these tracks were for an organized ride. Sorry I missed it, but I'll try the route. Thanks again

The roads are there all the time. They were pretty greasy in spots due to the heavy rains when we ran them this weekend, but the foliage was utterly spectacular and more than made up for it. "Peak" foliage is supposed to be this weekend, although I can't see how it would be any better than what we saw. If you're up this way and riding, I have accommodations here at The Palace of the People for riders.

In case anyone is interested in running the "Rock Garden" section up by Troy, here's the track. It's a hoot.
