Amazes me that most people in states without helmet laws don't wear them.

Living in a no-helmet-law state, I wouldn't 'most' don't wear them (completely unscientific study based on bikes I see on the road) but most have some sort of helmet on - even if it's just a 3/4 open-face. The morons that ride without lids stick out like a sore thumb to me, because I can't help but feel for their family when the inevitable eventually happens. Idiots...

First of all, glad you are OK. Good helmet you crashed in.

I too went down last monday, I was riding faster than 20 MPH though, think around 90-95 MPH. If I would not have been wearing a helmet I would have died. I would post a pic of how my face looked after the accident but it is pure gore. I can't imagine how it would have looked was I not wearing a helmet. The helmet saved my life, the rest of the equipment saved me from months of pain growing back skin.

You must live in a different Floriduh than I do. Very few wear helmets in the Floriduh I live in.
Before FL went helmet optional most wore those novelty helmets so I guess it really doesn't matter.

Seems to me, from the location of damage on the helmet here, those who ride with ANYTHING less than full face are all morons. A turtle shell, or even a 3/4 would not have done much good here... I don't have a pretty face, but I'd still rather keep it on my head than leave it scraped off on the pavement.

I too wouldn't be here without a helmet several times. You never know when gravel is in the road. Or a deer.

I live in Indiana which does not require a helmet and work in a plant that until recently also did not... I see 95% of people in the state do not wear a helmet... I work at a Steel Mill, ArcelorMittal, and most places in the industry do not allow motorcycles or personal vehicles on the grounds. A helmet law inside the plant was just put into effect in July and you would have thought you took away someones child! It is just crazy the lengths that people go to to not wear helmets. I have spoke to many people that say If they have to wear a helmet they just wont ride... Where did this come from that people don't care about their personal safety... I just don;t get it.
I accept the fact that eventually no matter how well I ride some a-hole is going to come out of no where and knock me off my bike, when that happens which could be today or the next or 10 years from now, I want to have a helmet on so I can come home to the things and people I love.

I am glad you decided that your life and family are worth it to you and ride in full gear
