Keep your county tax dollars within your county. 100% of it. And you could build and staff some awesome schools.
You mean like in Jefferson County?

WTH is that supposed to mean?? So, what, only when Obama attend a security briefing or what? He has chosen not to even attend something like 60% of them. Kind of like his record at voting while he was in Congress

Yep, than worked GREAT in Benghazi didn't it? Oh wait, that was spontaneous riot and not a planned attack.

Happy to talk specifics over a beer, but I'm not going to drag in the school's name as fodder for online political debate. The public school systems we dealt with were primarily in Nebraska and subsequently the greater Boulder area. The private school was Boulder area. Funding was tuition and private endowments.

I'm not saying private school is always the best answer. It very often suffers from low economies of scale and/or poor business management (good educators do not always equal good business people). I'm arguing that federal involvement in public schools adds an enormity of waste and administrative impotence (bureaucrats are both horrible educators and business people) that could be significantly reduced if done at a local level.

PS - For clarify, my profession is in the tech sector, not related to education, so it's not "my" school. My BoT involvement was a donation of my time.

You need to remember how many school district were borderline failures because of TABOR and were saved by increases in state education funding from the stimulus package:
“In many cases, what you will see is continuation of programs that would have been cut,” said Nina Lopez, director of the ARRA for the Colorado Department of Education.

Colorado isn’t alone. A July 8 report from the Government Accountability Office found school districts throughout the nation are using their federal dollars to keep teachers and offset state cuts."

Fixted.

Don't be idealistic.. our global business model is inexorably tied to our global military might. You can't collect the cash without the threat of Uncle Vito knocking on the door if they don't pay up.

Without a global military you don't get your cheap consumer luxury lifestyle.

Really? Even thought it is specifically pointed out as a benefit for the Colorado schools high rankings from US News & World Report for 2012?

Akkk! Sucked back in!

Quote:
One of the states with flexibility from No Child Left Behind mandates, Colorado tests students via state assessments that cover math, reading, writing, and science. Colorado has programs to help homeless students, create drug-free schools, and promote nutrition education, according to the Colorado Department of Education.
You are misreading this...

"Flexibility" in the context of this article means that Colorado has been EXEMPTED from NCLB federal testing and is using state testing instead, not that NCLB is one of the reasons for the success.

I was a Bushy, but not a supporter of No Child Left Behind. What's wrong with leaving children behind? It happens in sports and it happens in jobs and in life. Not all kids learn at the same rate and some are going to get left behind. Throwing money and programs and testing at it can't change the reality of that.
Sounds really compassionate on paper, but is unrealistic in application.

- Well the program couldn't be all bad then because it at least provided flexibility and requires the states that opted out to do something better than what the Federal government was mandating? Hmm... novel idea.

That's right, they go on to play dodge ball and not baseball.
