When you get off the plane just follow the crowd to immigration. You go left after getting your passport stamped , take a left through the line-up of taxistas holding signs for people expecting to be picked up, and down to the Cajero Automatico (ATM) on the left to get some Colombian pesos. Then out the door a ways behind the lineup of yellow taxis outside will be a couple diesel mini-buses going to Medellin. As soon as one fills up with 20 passengers it takes off. The fare is 8,000 pesos. After winding 20 or 30 miles up and down through the mountains it drops down a mountain and stops at a cab stand where you hop in a taxi and head to your final destination.

Or option 2 is to hop in a cab at the airport. The current fare to Medellin is a flat 55,000 pesos I believe.

Look forward to seeing you next week.

Saludos,
Tio Juan
Thanks for the info!! I was planning to bring cash but it seems that withdrawing from ATM is much easier than to get money changed. My bank doesn't charge international fee so thank god for that! If I run into you, I'll pay for your meal and maybe a gas fill-up!

Wow time falls back Saturday and Juan's back in Colombia. Winter can't be far away.

Still here.

Oh, and how 'bout them Gamecocks. Kicked Mizzous butt.

I confess. The only reason I care is because I went to the University of Oregon and am hoping the Ducks take the National Championship this year. And South Carolina knocked Missouri out of contention.

When I was in college back in the early 70's Oregon Duck football sucked donkeyballs. Oregon Duck national football champs and me making it to South America on a 250 Sherpa are two of my lifelong goals.

One has been achieved.

Give me a shout when you get to South Carolina. If I'm home and not on a LD trip I'd love to host you in Charleston.

Hi John,

Glad to have you along. Hope to see you down the road someday. Not much to report today. Mainly recuperating from a day of flying.

Saludos,
El Otro Juan

Look forward to seeing you next week amigo. ATMs are pretty easy to find in Colombia. Cash is king in Venezuela however, because of the black market. Don't know what your plans are though.

Saludos,
Tio Juan

Jon, what type of seat do you have on your bikes? Stock or modified or aftermarket? Just wondering how you ride a small bike all day. My XT225 is good for about 100 miles a day for me.

Hi Keithert,

I have the stock seat. To make it a bit more bearable I cut a black sheepskin to size and zip tied it to the stock seat. But let's face it, dirt bike seats leave a lot to be desired. If I had a lot of money I would look at someone like Renazco to make something more comfortable.

It is always cheaper to keep your bike stock and adapt to it. I am never in a hurry to get anywhere these days. I stop and take a lot of pictures, get gas before I need it, that sort of thing. And the more you ride the more you adapt to the stock seat.

If you go to the gym everyday and workout you don't feel as sore. Same with riding bikes. The more you ride the easier it gets.

Saludos,
Juan Poblado
