Look forward to seeing you next year amigo. A mighty 125 is quite a change from your Harley or that GS12 you were on last month. Little bikes are plenty fun in the Colombian mountains though,

Juan de la Aventura,

This route takes you from Medellin to Nevado del Ruiz on decent asphalt.

Roller coaster-like road to Manizales.

Then brings you to the true heart of coffee country.

In salento you can have a nice trout while gazing at the tallest palm trees in the world.

The paved roads of la zona cafetera are arguably the best in Colombia.

Then you shoot to Buenaventura in the pacific through the main road and turn around using the old road.

You get to Cali, almost as awesome as Medellin (lo siento, soy paisa) and maybe hang out with Mike of Motolombia. He knows all those areas better than most colombians.

Go through Popayan, the white colonial city on your way to Ipiales at the Ecuadorian border.

Of all people, I think you will enjoy El Santuario de Las Lajas.

Go back to Pasto and head to Mocoa, the entrance to the colombian amazon basin.

From there you go to the Arqueological site of San Agustin.

Excercise the sherpa desert running features at La Tatacoa.

Travel the Magdalena valley on your way to Bogota, the capital and biggest city of Colombia with almost 8 million people on its metro area. Bogota will offer a lot to see off the bike in case you're interested.

Descend to Villavicencio and have steaks that will make you think the ones in Texas are small.

Ride on the Llanos and make your way back up to el altiplano. The salt mines in Zipaquira are worth a visit IMO.

From there you can head to Puerto triunfo (near Rio Claro) and back to Medellin on fast pavement.

That's the same info I got.
I'm sure Juan will be ok.... but maybe bigger bikes with foreign plates might attract too much unwanted attention... i was planning to ride solo or maybe with one more bike... OTOH my plate is Venezuelan and I might be treated like a brother by the bad guys

Gracias!

In the process of doing that.

I'm just hoping Juan here has some neat shots and some of his professional commentary. I think he's holding out on us. ;)

Hi Burt,

Now that you mention it, it did kinda remind me of that easy ride you took me on in the Ozarks.

Your ADVpal,
Nebraska John

Hi Ricardo,

After looking at those fine pics I think I'll have to head to Ecuador and back and get a fresh bike permit. That Pasto-Mocoa road looks like the bomb. Plus I hear the old road to Buenaventura is fine. Actually it all looks good. Thanks for all the info amigo. I really appreciate it. I'll report back what I find.

Saludos,
Tio Juan

My Medellin riding buddies told me that the Christmas lights down at the river in Medellin were lit while I was gone. Had to go check it out. They take Christmas seriously in Colombia. Viva Latin Las Vegas!

Saludos,
Tio Juan

Mis amigos de Ontario!

So good to hear from you! How is Rosie? (my favourite woman so far in South America). You Sherpa riders you. You are tough and stubborn. I like that! So much fun hanging out with you and eating tuna with peas.

It doesn't get any better!

Saludos,
Tio Canadienne

PS. IT'S FOOKIN COLD UP THERE. Get down here. I miss you guys.
