Great meeting you...

John,
Thanks for coming all the way up to Cave Creek from Apache Junction. It was a pleasure getting to meet you and swap some stories.

For anyone who hasn't gotten the chance to meet John yet, he's as cool and nice in real life as he is in his ride report.

Hi Tim,

Talking about travels and motorcycles while eating good Mexican food is a great way to while away the afternoon.

Here is FoolishADV at El Encanto up in Cave Creek Arizona:

It’s always nice to put faces to names. I learned that you can rent a moto pretty cheap in the Philippines. Might have to head over that way later on. I'd probably have more fun than my father did in WWII.

Hi John, If you are still lurking around Phoenix, I'd love to meet up. Even buy you a limonada, since you don't drink . John Too

Hi John,

PM sent. I enjoyed your Mexico ride report on your TW by the way.

Your pal,

Calimusjohn rode over this afternoon to visit on his Tw200:

He is a great story teller and has led an interesting life. He rode his TW down through Mexico this winter. His ride report will keep you entertained. Who doesn't like a story about an older guy on a little fuel efficient ripper floating down the back roads of Latin America?

Had a fun afternoon. John treated me to an excellent lunch and some great stories. Look forward to seeing him next fall before I head down to South America. I got to reciprocate and sign his gas tank which only seems fair since his name is on mine down in Uruguay.

Here is a link to his ride report:

Something to keep you entertained while I work for a while to make some more South America travel bucks.

Heading back to Nebraska in a few days. It was snowing last week up there so I decided to stay in sunny Arizona a little while longer. It looks like Spring is coming to the Northern Plains next week.

Saludos,
Tio Juan

That's a cool little bike. Looks like you could fit a body in the trunk.

Now that's a bike that is set-up to ride ! Love the built in jumper cables ( handy for helping stranded BMW's ) and the wooden rear rack ! Good thing your in the desert or your ass would be constantly soggy around here with that seat pad .

I'd like to thank both of you Johns ( Juanito and Viejo Juan ) for your entertaining reports that helped me get though a long cold winter . Calimusjohn I'm glad you are feeling better and I'm looking forward to reading about your next adventure .

The Visit

I had a day to remember! A quick run of 134 miles across the desert on a 75 MPH speed limit freeway on a TW200. It is geared where it runs easily at 65. Still the slowest runner in the pack.
.
Then I get to meet in person - John Downs - AND his sister. Susan squeezed a bunch of oranges and provided a refreshing drink to assuage the thirst created by 96 degree air temps.
.
John and I went off to feed our faces as Susan devoted her time to completing a time sensitive Home-job element.
.
We returned to sit on the patio, sip iced tea and swap tales from the past. I occasionally allowed John to get in a word sideways. I'm like a farmer that spends days isolated on a tractor - when given the opportunity to talk - I just gush. John just smiled an enigmatic smile similar to Mona Lisa's. I just assumed that he was fascinated with my drivel and plowed ahead.
.
On the ride back home, the thermometers on highway signs read 102 degrees. A tad warmish. A little "hot" was a small price to pay to meet/greet with our South America tour guide. In person, he is as gracious and eloquent as in his writings. I had a day to remember.
.
Tio Juanito and Viejo Juan

Ridin' on - - - - John Too P.S. I have a gas tank autographed by Tio Juanito - nanner, nanner. . .

You guys' stories and smiles are the best entertainment. It was a long winter up in Pennsyltucky, and Juan sure helped so many up there in the old-age home.
I'll be checking out the new thread by calimusjohn.
Hope to meet you both someday on the road less traveled.

Tomski!

Left Arizona yesterday. Currently in Nebraska. I'm heading up to South Dakota to an ADV campout tomorrow. Not sure when Slap rally is but I'm heading to Texas shortly and will drop by Tulsa to say hi on my way down.

I see you sent that last message from your Polish telefonu. I don't have a telefonu. My communication is limited to this ride report, PMs and telepathy. Seems to work.

Look forward to seeing you and Yanoush,
Nebraska John

Well, you have almost the whole week. Slap is 16th-18th, but some of us will be there on Thursday morning - May 15th. Sounds like you have plenty of time to come down and share your stories with us.
Yanush says "Hi!"

Hope to see you soon Mr. Nebraska John!
