Anyone heard about camping near the track? I did a search of the web and found nothing.

I did get my GA ticket and Motorcycle parking pass a while back too.
Anybody got recommendations on the best hotel location/price or other things to consider? I guess staying closer to the track makes sense and then riding to town for the music scene

Unfortunately, living in the area I don't really know about hotels in the area because I don't really need them. So I can't recommend anything.

I would like to check out the Austin music scene but how much time I spend there will depend on what the motogp events are besides the races. I do want someplace I dont have to worry about the bike's security. I would consider camping at the track if they will have good shower facilities and are set up for that.

It will still be a while before they start announcing all the extra events. For the F1 race in two weeks they really only started to have final info a month ago and they are just in the last week spreading the word on what streets will be closed. The nice thing about downtown parking is that bikes are free in the metered street side parking. As far as camping at the track, they have RV slots for the F1, but I don't think there is tent camping and the RV slots are more than a hotel. So basically you should expect to ride to the race and ride to downtown. I'd pick a hotel on the east side of Austin and that will get you sort of in the middle of both places.

What woodbutcher said.
They are going to great lengths to prep the track and infrastructure for F1 race type traffic, MotoGP shouldn't be a problem at all. I'd get a hotel closer to town.. you can find weekend rooms just off 6th street for $120 without too much trouble. And most of the hotels down there will have parking garages, though you will have to pay an additional fee. I actually got a Friday night room at the Hilton for less than $150 in August.. and it was right in the middle of all the action down town. |

uhh. yeah. No hilton for $150 apparently.
Extended stay places with open parking are $125.. hilton garden inn around $200. (have a garage, iirc) And that's all right off 6th street. If you take a cab a couple miles you can probably do far better.. |

Tickets sent in the mail or picked up at Will Call?
I bought my tickets and bike parking pass in October and have not received them, I'm assuming they are a "will call" deal and I will pick them up at the track? Anybody got the definitive info on tickets before I call COTA?

I called the 800 for the track and the person answering the phone said the tickets would be sent to me a month before the race.

Diggin this one up.
My place is still open for campers. This is not in the sticks, but I have a nice large yard. Camp, park, and shower free, but we ain't cookin for any heathens. Plenty of restaurants around. I'm only a half mile out of Elgin downtown, 20 or so from the track. All are welcome if you can't find a room. A fire will be had, as well as beers. No takers as of today, wide open for anyone interested.
