Johnny Campbell race report, Morocco Rally Day 3.

Today was a point to point unlike previous days loop format. We left Erfoud and raced to Zagora. The route today was very fast, leaders averaging over 60mph. The terrain was mostly hi speed sandy/gravel roads with many rocks and many dry lake crossings. Very little off track riding. Easier day for navigation. I started around 20th today and quickly caught up to dust. It was difficult to pass with the speed and lack of vision. About a 90k Mark Coma was crashed out and being attended to by Helicopter medics.

I had a consistent ride, played on the conservative side with the rocks and hi speed. Pretty uneventful altogether. Finished 22nd on the day.

I feel good right now, a little fatigued after 3 solid days of racing and about 900k of riding. Helder stopped for the downed Mark Coma and has taken the lead in the Rally on his Factory CRF450 Rally bike. I am having a great time and cant wait til tomorrow's stage. If only the food wasn't so scary!

could be that the wrist was also banged up and it needs to stay in a fixed position... ?

Don't think it's right none of the bikes in it have navigational stuff, and doesn't seem to be any rallye bikes either just enduro bikes....

That was not the case for the majority of his run today, I think it was a navigational error while trying to find a waypoint that screwed him up and cost him so much time. Helder, when stopping to see if Marc was OK gained a huge advantage. Not saying in any way that it was malicious or in bad sport, but effectively he probably had 5-6 more "rabbits" (riders) pass in front of him, which 90% of the time means that he didn't have to navigate, and he certainly didn't have to waste time to locate the tricky WP. All this while gaining back about 8 minutes in time (or however long it was that he stopped to check up on Marc)...

Hope what I'm saying makes sense

This was day three of a SIX day rally...

Day four and five are navigationally and dune wise... the most technical...

11 minutes tomorrow is a margin... not a failsafe barrier.

Indeed. And Cyril has 18.30 minutes in opportunity to make up. As I said, I expect he will unleash hell and is in the prime position of becoming the Orange hero that denied HRC victory on their first outing now that Marc is out.

This race is turning out to have all the high drama ingredients of the Dakar. Good to be on board with all you loons
