Different color beak 2004 1150GS

Hi Inmates,

I am looking at a 2004 1150GS that looks to be in great shape with lots of farkles. The only thing that I am not sure is that the beak is a little different color then the tank, graphite gray.

Has anybody seen this on the oil head GS's?

Thanks

Are you just saying that you are worried that the bike was in a crash and got re-painted? But that maybe not, if the factory paint was not a perfect match? Because obviously it's a pretty simple matter to repaint the tank. Removing the beak takes a little more effort.

Pretty sure that the tank was not repainted, the rest of the bike does not look crashed.

Although. Ya never know.......

The beak is tough, not indestructible. If the forks are straight and the bike tracks fine, buy it and start saving up for a total reprint.

Yeah, that's funny. Basically, they look the same except the Adventure tank is wider and there is a visible hose that drops down from inside the left lobe and crosses under the tank to connect to the right lobe. Look at some pics here and soon enough you'll be able to spot an Adventure tank just based on the shape.

Food for thought. The tank is metal and the beak is plastic. Some times that affects the look of the paint finish.

How off is it?

Thanks, knowing about the increased quanity is good information, knowing how to spot the difference is even better.

The 1200GS is easy, I have had trouble with the 1150.

Does the beak match the rear fender? That is the third painted part. Run the vin and see what turns up.

I believe the adventure models were only black/yellow or silver/red. There might have been a pearl white version as well. Once you see the two tanks, it will be easy to spot.
