Some Good Deals on FleaBay

There are certainly many bad deals on bikes and parts on the Ebay channel. So this thread is for the not so bad deals. This one is not a really good deal but I don't think this tool is available any more. I've had mine for about 35 years. When I wasn't riding an Airhead for a couple of years I still had this. It is one of the most impressive and even intimidating tools you will ever own. This price is just OK. This is what this tool would cost you over the counter if it was still made. A lot of you new comers will have to buy an after market version of this tool. It is one of the must have tools when working on an Airhead. You can have the original. Not considered a portable tool for those of you spending too much time on the road. But this wrench will get those stuck exhaust nuts off.

You probably thought this price was too high if you saw this at all. I beg to differ. This price is fair.

Excellent weapon I mean tool.

I got one for "50 bucks" off an item I'm selling/bartering to a friend. He had 3 of them, said he could spare one but would always keep one and a spare.

Smart man. I keep mine under the front seat in my car. I would actually buy a second if I could get it for $50. But you won't find too many at that price. Somebody who's trying to get things done on a budget may forgo getting this but for a lot of guys who can afford the real thing, this works better.

I have both ... One of the " Old School " that you have Disston ... and one of newer ones that is made by some guy here in Oz .

I prefer the newer one because it picks up every fin ... its easier to get in ... and I am able to include it in my tool roll.

Maybe I am a bit anal ... but I do my headers ... clean out with a bottle brush ... and apply anti seize twice a year . Its amazing how much better the bike sounds and riders with a bit of the carbon cleaned out does.

I only anti-seize the exhaust nuts when I have removed them for something else. It seems I have to take them off occasionally and if they look dry I put some more on. I've never had to remove the exhaust nuts just for anti-seize. If I went a couple of years with out touching them I guess I would hope I remember this because it might be a good idea at that point.

prefer this one over OEM tool that skips fins grabbing less area.

if you've got a tight collar, safest way to apply torque is with an impact motion. in other words, hit the tool with a plastic dead blow hammer. naturally don't forget anti-size...

Occasionally the ebay deals are great. F'instance earlier this year there was a fella selling a complete Bosch headlight, identical to the stock /7 style headlight for less than US$40. He had a few dozen of them. They included the headlight shell, the glass, the chrome surround and the clips for the surround. Only problem for us left side of the roaders was the glass was for the other side.

Try buying one of those from the dealer.

I have a big heavy cast wrench that says "Euroline" on it. I think it was $30. Looks like this picture I stole from here:




Inmate Donkey Hotey made fun of me for lugging it around.

So, I CNC'ed a nice compact one, better than the Ed Korn one shown in that link since it extends to both sides of the ratchet axis.

Speaking of ebay, I just scored some cheap new /2 parts from someone who said they got the inventory of a closed BMW shop. I'll try to find a link.

I bought one from that guy too; turned out he had a couple hundred of them !

I think they only fit our airheads & older Guzzis, so I mentioned this site & ibmwr to him.

Back in the 90's my wife & I went to our first Airhead Death Valley Rally.
Gary Hanson had a big jar full of dozens of "odd-ball" motorcycle parts and pieces.
Everyone was challenged to inspect the jar and guess how many of the parts were original BMW Airhead parts.
Of all the dozens of veteran Airheads and riders, my Wife was the one who won the challenge and had the proper answer. Beginners luck I'd say (?) ....... I won the exhaust nut wrench!
