Custom X-challenge.....nice ! Pity about the stock suspension unit. Could do with an upgrade.

I spotted this thread way late, and it took me the good part of two days nonstop to catch up with everything. Man, the pictures you take are stunning. I so wish I had some of that talent.

Hi again,
thank you everybody for your kind comments you've left in the meantime.

I've taken a ferry from Trapani on Sicily to the island of Pantelleria. Though it's Italian it lies already south of Tunis in terms of latitude. Some wealthy Italians like Mr. Berlusconi and Mr. Armani have their holiday home here.
Pantellerias architecture is quite specific with its stone houses and their flat white roofs.

The islands roads offer some extremes ...

... but though the coast road is magnificent there's another reason to go here. And the reason is underwater.

Due to its position in the Med the waters of Pantelleria offer best food supply for a lot of species. Humans included

I'm not a diver, not a snorkeller and I already dislike water temperatures of less than a hot shower. But how can I travel the Med without at least one time get my toes wet? That's why I've bought a snorkel, flippers and an underwater housing for the G9 (camera).

For those of you familiar with scuba-diving these pics won't be spectecular at all. For me as an underwater noob they are much more than I've expected.

And even above the waterlevel there are some nice motives. A bit too posh maybe. But can you imagine Giorgio Armani rowing around the island?

In the evening I take the ferry back to Sicily ...

... to find accomodation in Palermos old town at Claudios. This is now the time to learn more about Palermo, Sicily and the Mafia. And Claudio is the right person to teach me.

That will be the story of the next chapter.

Cheers!

Dirk
