500 miles in 24hr on a CRF250L
Was at work Saturday when I found out some of my buddies were going riding Sunday at Sam Houston National Forest. From Corpus to SHNF is about a 6hr drove, totally worth it for the large area to ride in and tree's more than 10ft tall :) No big deal, called the wife and told her I was going to be gone Sunday riding. She said," Ok great but I need the truck Sunday, at least you"ll get good gas mileage. I grabbed a fanny pack and strapped it to the bars, small camelback strapped to the tail with a spare helmet for a friend, and my large hiking pack on my back. Pulled out of Corpus at 7pm about 30min before dark, lets do this! Oh and my bike only had 268 miles on the odo.
![]() With a strong headwind the bike wanted to cruise at 73mph, not bad considering I weigh 250lbs plus all my gear. Ran into some of the worst amount of bugs in my life about 1.5hrs out. ![]() Pulled over to gas up and clean my helmet. ![]() ![]() Made it to my buddy Kevin's house about 11:30pm and was immediately handed a whiskey and coke. Had a great couple of hours catching up with old friends. We finally hit the hay about 2am. Woke up around 8am and had a slow start to the day. Went to look at all the bugs on the bike in the morning :) ![]() We finally made it up to SHNF about 11am and rode until around 4:30pm. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A little video we shot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgvbO_rd9_E&feature=plcp Ate dinner and packed up to leave Houston. Stopped and bought a jacked because a cold front blew in and it was freezing. I wore all my clothes on the way home, 2 pants, 2 shirts, a jacket, and 2 pair of gloves. I bought the second pair about half way through the trip home because it was freezing and my MX gloves breathe too good. Blurry pic taken by non english speaking guy from Mexico. ![]() Good thing this happened before I got there. Scary. ![]() Really tired, about 11:30pm in the middle of no where getting gas. ![]() Home safe! Mileage pic I took this morning.

The one time I actually calculated I got 60 mpg, but the headwind was about 15mph with 25mph gusts, pinned at 75 pulling down to 68 when gusting, and 300lbs of man and gear.

Do you not own a riding jacket?
Nice to see a little bike doing three distance. How was your ass at the end? Haha
