Something a little different in J Tree
In an effort to expand my horizons, I am going to do something a little different this weekend.
Joshua Tree Roots Music Festival http://www.joshuatreemusicfestival.com/ Going to drag my toy hauler and XR650L out for the weekend. Plan is to ride during the day and see some interesting music during the night. Have a campsite at Joshua Tree Lake campground http://jtlake.com/ Looking to see some weird and unusual sites during the day time and even more unusual people after sunset. Weather looks good. Drink, Smoke, Photograph and make music. Pretty basic recipe for unscheduled fun. If you can make it, cool, if not, post up some suggestions for interesting destinations during the riding hours. Depart Friday AM from Orange,CA, return Sunday PM.

Pioneertown and Pappy & Harriet's are pretty close and kind of classic.

Nice views from Covington Flats, Keys View. Ride Berdoo Canyon. Old Dale Mine Rd, Black Eagle Mine Rd will get you some easy dirt time.
Great time of year to be in JT. Should be a great time. |

Pinkham/Thermal Canyon loop
As long as you're comfortable with sand, that's a good loop you should pretty much have to yourself.
You could also cross I 10 at Box Canyon and ride up to Hotel California

Pioneer Town, I remember riding a D-37 Grand Prix there in the early 70's

I was entered in the Pioneer Town race (the one featured in "On Any Sunday"), but I did not go because I had to bring my bike in the day before and leave it in the impound overnight.
Otherwise I would have been featured in the movie instead of Malcomb. Believe that and i have a bridge for sale. Don P.S. The next year the race was called Pie-in-Ear Town race. It was not held in Pioneer town. |
