How to make your own Carbon Fiber fairing....

Ok......So I started a little early.............But I was going back and forth about making a dashboard to mount the instruments in......or make a new sub frame to host said instruments.... My goal is to move them 1 1/2 inch to the right. They are not centered....for my taste......he-he. My current setup with the gps could move a little to the right..... I`d like to keep it like this.....imho....a more oem look.....and less rattle and vibes for the gps.....


Right now I think it`l be too much trouble to re-make the sub frame in CF.... I did`nt realize it went way down along the sides......arrrrgggg. So I decided to make a CF plate that raises the cluster about 1 inch towards the rider......and moves it 1 1/2 inch to the right......


Soooooo while it is hardening over night.......I will think up some designs.....methinks..... In the am.....off to hobbylobby for the foam, and I just realized I need more CF fabric. Ohhhhh....well.....One thing at a time......Until then.......

This bike is gonna have more carbon fibre than a bugatti veyron! Whike your at it E why not add another power socket to use for your GPS if it's not. Hard wired?

Nahhhhhhhh....... My " Darth Vador" is the CF beast......the 8gs will just have a few here and there.... The Gps is in fact wired back again to the underside of the plug.......and the plug itself is now switched.....red one is for the outlet.......green one for future use.....

Did you make the CF panel by using the original to make a mold from which you made the panel? I've often thought that particular panel would be a good project to get started in composites with.

Where did you source the switches? I've been trying to find waterproof lit switches that didn't cost $10 or more a piece. Between a custom panel and nice switches I could make the 800GS look like it ate a 747 cockpit.

Wish there was some better place to source foam.... I'm now starting my own project inspired by your threads. First thing I did was hit an ABQ Hobby Lobby for styrofoam, but their prices are nuts!! It would have cost me like $100 for the amount I needed! New plan is to hack up a couple old Omaha Steak coolers I've had for years. Moments like this justify being a packrat.

......Good grief....what are you making....Beside luggage....... Yeppers..... I think they are around $5 a sheet......for the 1/2 inch. It is way overpriced. Trouble with ordering online......well.....polystyrene foam+ups= stuff for your bean bag. Sorry...But I don`t know where else to get it. By the way...the ride days are oct.8-10. I got room at the high country lodge. Dean Jones ( bmw abq) is the organizer.......Could be fun.
