Talking ...off we go into Montenegro...

Day 6...

We decided to go to Monenegro via Bosnia & Herzegovina because right after the little border there was a road that looked rather interessting.
As we were to find out, a rather heavly graveled road which was not the type of road you want to go when you have street tires on your bike and your not a vey skilled off-roader.

..on our way to the road through Bosnia&Herzegovina to the Montenegrin boarder...

...now officialy in Montenegro...

...this is how the road looked on the map...

...and this in real live...

...very promising...

...but after the T-junction it turned to gravel, the soft sort of gravel - when you walk on it you sink in a inch....

My bike wasnt very pleased with the gravel and took a narcoleptic fit....

... this was after the fit and...

...this after Doc McTie-wrap had come to fix it...

...nothing serious but I was ready for some medication...

We opted against the road and went back a few miles to get on with the tour...

...the peak in the distance is the Lovcen...

...bay of Kotor...

...Kotor...

...one ambulance towing the other...

...just beautiful - the bay of Kotor from above...

...riding up the Lovcen...

..Cetinje...

...view from the top of Lovcen...

...the mausoleum at the top...

...going down the Lovcen towards the coast...

...Budva...

stay tuned for day 7 ...

Wink Bing vs Google

Your right!
You cant find it on Google maps or lets but it that way: Google maps knows its not passable...
The maps on Google are more up to date than Bing and BaseCamp.
GM knows about the new road coming from BiH to MNE and Bing an BC still have the old road

Cool2 ...deeper int Montenegro

Day 7...

Our first night in Montenegro ended with a competition between a cock crowing and a massive dog barking at 5 a.m.
We met a mountain guide, who lives not far from me in Austria and he told us about this road through the Skadar Lake National Park.
The way he talked aboute the route was so intriguing - we had to take that road...

...lovely campsite with old olive trees but the sanitary standard wasnt quite our stile...

...this was the closest we would get to the Albanian border - see the mast on the left - Albania is just behind there...

...having a break at the top of the pass...

...looking into Albania...

...wonderful alleys of wild-growing figs and chestnuttrees...

...the only other motorbikers we saw on that day was this couple from Austria...

...fatastic food and a very good price...

After leaving the capital Podgorica going North we saw this little gorge next to the main road.

Since the the Montenegrins drive like berserkers we tried to keep away from the big streets looking for the smaller mountain roads.

...I love this picture...

...the main square of Kolasin
While I was waiting for Siggi getting some dinner (read beer) I was approached by a father with here daughter asking me if we were looking for some rooms.
I told them we were more into camping and they told us of a national park not far were you could camp.
During the talk I was surrounded by four dogs, all wagging their tails.... the people here are very friendly!

...this was the "campsite" in the NP Bigradska Gora
...no way getting nails in the floor(rock) so we tied the tents between the trees...

...sleeping beauties...

the route of the day....

I hope you like my report sofar.
I know its a lot of pictures but I have 1700 pics and I already cut them down to 500 or so, I hope I“m not boring you..

stay tuned for day 8 ...

...through the Tara gorge an Dumitor mountains...

Day 8...

We stayed the night in the National Park for a very low price: 3€
But we discovered there were no showers and the old style toiletts.
For 11€ we could have rented a room with real toiletts and a shower....
...you always know better afterwards....

After 8hrs of sleep in total silence I was ready for action at 0600h and went for some sunrise photos.

...we had our personal watchdog who was lying in front of our tents in the morning....

...a good day starts with a good breakfast...

... the beginning of the Tara canyon...

a few words to the Tara ....
The Tara canyon is the second longest canyon in the world, so they say. Grand Canyon being the longest...
When you read that over and over again you get very excited about this gorge.
I have seen a few canyons across the world and excpeted to see something like the "Grand Canyon du Verdon" in France, which is quite something for motorbikers.

But unfortunatly I was rather disapointed about this canyon. Its more like a narrow valley than a canyon.
I expect a canyon to have walls rising vertically into the sky etc.

...riding through the Tara canyon...

...this gorge if very popular for rafting...

...the Durdevica Tara Bridge...

...Zabljak...

...Durmitor mountains...

...going through the Durmtitor mountains, following a fantasic pass...

..."SEDLO" is not the name of the pass, although often refered to as the "Sedlo Pass", its the croatian word for saddle.Maybe its called the Saddle Pass or Saddle saddle...

...wonderful roads with no traffic...

...you know the saying: Eating is the sex of the elder...

...the Piva lake and the canyon - more spectacular than the Tara gorge

...officially left Montenegro and entered Bosnia & Herzegovina again to get back to Croatia to our favorite campsite with a real toilette...

the route of the day....

stay tuned for day 9 ...

Cool2 ...going north again...

Day 9...

We knew that this day would be our last one together, since Siggi wanted to be home in 2 days. I had some time left and would stay in this fantasic region to enjoy the fabulous weather.

We wanted to go up the peninsula of Peljesac and take a ferry east to the mainland. When we arrived at the ferry station we couldn buy any tickets because the ship was full. We had 5 minutes to get on the boat but no way they would let us.
Even some people that bought tickets 30min before, weren't allowed on the ferry and had to got all the way back, as we had to do.....

...a good day starts with a good breakfast - did I already mention that?...

...the city of Ston has a series of Walls, orig. more than 7km long, once known as the "European Chinese Wall"...

...and they grow gigantic pineapples...

...looking over to the mainland...

...a welcome board on Peljesac...

...yes, there was rain, but it evaporated fast than it soaked the clothes...

This was where me and Siggi parted!
Thanks Siggi for being such a good riding partner and for the fun we had. I“m sure there are some more roads for us to discover!

I went to the little town of Trogir. A wonderful town where I treated myself with a 4* apparent and a garage for the bike.
Trogir is a paradise for photographers. Its built like a maze and behind every corner there is something new to discover.

Here are some night shots.

stay tuned for day 10 ...

Hi panzerrocket!

I was only two days in Montenegro - but there is so much more to see there. I“m pretty sure to go there again next year, maybe including a bit more of Bosnia & Herzegovina and even Albania.
That region is so interesting and unknown its always worth going there...

Talking ...sightseeing in Trogir and Split...

Day 10...

I used the day to stroll through Trogir and have a look at Split. Both cities have little alleys like a maze, but Split cant put up with Trogir. Split is a wonderful city but hasnt got the atmosphere of Trogir. If your into photography you will love both cities.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

I“ll let the pictures speak for themself...

...the church on the left was built during the 9th century(!)...

...who can decifer the year it was made...

After some sightseeing in Trogir I went of to Split...

...fascinating statue of Gregory of Nin...

the route of the day....

stay tuned for day 11 ...

Oh come on we are not that crazy
And yes they call it saddle just because resembles Horse Saddle...

And somehow you have managed to find the best bike roads in Montenegro...many bikers in Montenegro have not been on some of these roads.....Sorry about bad camping and lack of toilets....
