Rider Update

Australian Safari Legend Allan Cunynghame has just registered for Scrapheap 2013 Great to have you on board Allan

'The bike is not to exotic but has a bit of history it's an 2000 XR650 with the side covers off the last bike I rode in the Baja 1000 and the head light is off the bike I rode in the 1991 Australian Safari ' says Allan

As training for the Safari, rider and bike were sent to Peru for the 1988 Incas Rally (left below) which was finished successfully. The rider was Allan Cunynghame (seen far right above), a notable Australian competitor from the period - who sadly later that year crashed the Yokohama sponsored bike in the Wynn's Safari (below right) as a consequence of front fork failure.

Oh dear, what has this Hillbilly done?

Dougie "Bullfiddle" Bull is a key member of The Hillbillies SAR4 team, a double-bass player extraodinaire and purveyor of the finest used bib-n-brace overalls in the region. Dougie is a powerhouse of ingenuity and design but the wiring on the XT500 is a puzzle! The big bunch of wires in his hand goes with the other bunch of wires on the bike apparently, but as this photo was taken rather late in the evening, anything could have happened. The ever so slightly manic look on his face isn't much of a departure from normal, but it's a bit of a worry when he gets to looking like this......

When I visited him yesterday at his workshop in beautiful downtown Mayfield he was as always supremely confident that the XT would come together in time for the SAR....... the photo might suggest otherwise but I saw all the bits, looks to me like he's going for a flat tracker theme and I reckon it's going to look great. He started to talk at me about the way the total loss 6 volt system used a capawhatsit to drive the prosicator........replaced with a 6-volt dry something or other.......negative reverses on the ignition...... well when I woke up we were talking about exhaust pipes and he was shoving some bits of exhaust in the back of my car, apparently for a an exhaust mod on the BEEMERNATOR .....

Nearly there, nearly there!!

Regards,

joe & co.

Good luck to all you scrappers for next week, won't be able to make it again, but will make the effort next year as a 'must do' event
Travel safe, and remember - 'it's not the quickest that matters, it's getting there that counts!'

Rode that little DT175 for six months all through NSW & Qld in '78, might put another one together for next year
Haven't had Easter off since 2007, far out, must join the real world again one day
Cheers

Tean Inverell

Team Inverell completed their major fundraising last night with a dinner at the Oxford Hotel. Great turnout, great people and a few dollars raised.

The Rabbit Trappers, a local band, entertained us, plenty of lucky door prizes given out and a few hundred dollars was raised via a Silent Auction.

The Majority of Team Inverell members will be departing on wed morning. Two will depart on tuesday to meet up with the main group at Pilliga but Ross cannot get away until thursday morning.
Ross believes he will catch us up in Bourke. The rest of us are not so sure.
He is riding a 70cc, yes 70cc, scooter so we wish him all the best.
