Part #8 is the Top Hat spacer. The small one is 9.2 mm long, it is part #36 31 4 038 142

The long one is 10.7 mm long. That is 1.5 mm more. It is part #36 31 2 301 737

This is sometimes enough. If not you may have to get a skinnier tire.

It is a prejudice maybe but many think that fat tires on an Airhead don't work well and handling is better with the tire sizes the bike is designed for.

I stayed up till 2am last night trying to put the finishing touches and get everything put back together. I had an appointment with a local Airhead mechanic to do a final run-through. I hauled it over to him and he found a few unpicked nits to sort out: steering head nut adjustment, removing vertical play on the rockers, cable tweaks, and so on.

He was a little bit suspicious about the integrity of the bottom-end work given that I did it myself, and I have zero years of experience working on Airheads. I guess the proof will be in the pudding.

Finally the time came to press the starter button. I could barely get it all the way down before it fired up and came to life!

He got the carbs roughly synced and shut it down, advising me to make sure every nut and bolt I'd touched the night before was properly tightened down. I hauled it home and rolled it into the garage to get ready for the first ride.

Anything else you'd recommend before I take it out?
