As soon as I get suited up...

...taking off. Longnboring across Nebraska, overnight in Bushnell, storms predicted, then tomorrow - steamboat via somewhere, somewhere else and what's that other place? Yeah...too much time packing and no time planning...making it up as I go along...

Taking dirt to cross KS

I cannot unfortunately make the time to come out west for the rallye but I thought I would share this in case some want to take the long way across KS and make it more entertaining.

Link to gpx file

The only part I have not ridden lately is the very west part past Scott City. East of Scott City, I have ridden it over the last couple of weeks so route should be pretty accurate.
I created this route trying to find the right mix between making time and keeping the ride entertaining. Most of it is on dirt, a few miles of sand toward the middle and a lot of low maintenance roads ... Do not pass gas, especially out west.

Oh and the 9x0 is the perfect machine for that kind of ride!

Made it to the Steamboat campground. Not too many people here yet. Just went to brush my teeth and there was a fox in the bathroom.

Sure you were in the right bathroom? Seriously tho...many years ago when I frequented rallies and race meetings more often, my post-pubescent mates and I would always set up camp near the women's bathrooms...that way you eventually saw every female there...brilliant...

anyone have weather reports/trail conditions

The central rockies are pretty wet in elevations >7500' and the NOAA reports look awful for the rest of the work week...

...local trail conditions yesterday were pretty poor due to past rains but were not all that muddy. After quite a bit of local rain in the past 24 hours those same trails have to be really muddy and it doesn't look good for the rest of the week.

For those folks in the Steamboat area already, how are things looking mid-week? Anyone living locally have a good idea how things will turn out for Friday and Saturday?

It's supposed to clear up as we get through the week, and should be nice for the weekend....

Yep it's wet here.
Just fire up the radar. Lots of moisture coming up from the south all week.

The "impassible road when wet" just before Gypsum ( section 4)was pretty bad...that red clay crap was super slick and the ruts just added to the challenge
We also had a fun time on Ophir pass...other then that the mud out of Buena Vista was tough...we got rained on pretty good...camping in Gypsum for the night.
See ya'll tomorrow

Well, we made it to Steamboat yesterday. Got really wet right at the end. Mostly no drama, just good trails and good times. MOSTLY no drama....

And I've got your top speeds beat. And this was on a gravel road.
