CJ Tech days in Steamboat... SWEET!!!

This is a great idea. I've wanted to do a CJ tech weekend for years, but the distance to WI has been prohibitive. Offering one at Steamboat prior to the Rally would be awesome. And here's a big question to ask. I've noticed you offer other products like K60 tires, KTM oil filters and screens, a Rekluse, CPR filters among your normal fare. If I placed an order for items leading up to the Rally... like a aux. tank, could you arrange a drop ship somewhere at or near the Steamboat campground where I could pick the items up and install them during the tech sessions. Last year was a mad scramble to hustle items and services and I could have really benefitted from this... especially in the form of a new tire replacement. And I would have saved money over some of my last minute service decisions, for sure.

Love the idea of doing a camp pack kit tech session and what are the optimum weights and sizes for certain gear items... like tents, cook kits, heat sources. There's no way I'll ever accumulate 200k miles of experience, but I want that type of scrutinizing on the products I'm trying to build up to my kit.

Do you have suggestions on luggage option pros and cons leading up to the rally... and do you have connections with some of those resources where items could be ordered and drop shipped as well. On last year's rally I discovered I needed an extra top bag downstream, and it was a mad scramble adding something I was happy with for the long ride home.

And the money I can save staying at the campground just builds up my farkle kitty.

Like the way this year's rally is developing.

It seems the rally goes by so fast and everyone is scattered. What if we could extend it just a few extra days?

I've been kicking around the idea:

What if we moved the CJD Tech Weekend this year to coincide with the KTM Rally and get more riders, that don't want to drive across the plains to Wisconsin, the opportunity to join in on the chaos?

If we arrived in Steamboat Campground on the 10th. Maybe we could offer a Camping/ cooking/ packing / prep session to display and show the products my team personally chooses for our trips. Help explain why we choose them. Pros/cons. Have an open Q&A session. This can be done at our camp site, they also have a covered pavilion we could use.

-What tents we use.
-How we pack the bikes.
-How to quickly install an AWD system on YOUR bike.
-What cooking gear we use.
-How do we set the bikes up with camping gear to still ride trails and explore.
-What is your favorite peice of Kit. We can all learn from each other.
-Open Q&A with Craig and Crew.

I'm no expert by any means, and I am always learning every trip we take. I feel there is no "perfect" setup for everyone, but seeing and talking with other campers can help get you dialed in faster than trial and error.

I have over 200,000 miles on KTMs now and if I can be of help, I'm willing to give you a few days of my time. Maybe some of our insight can help make your trip go a bit smoother and cost you less in the long run getting proper gear to start with.

If not, no problem. We'll see you on the trails. Happy New Year!
This sounds like it could be fun!

Thank you all for your fast input. I'm excited to get some ideas jotted down.

I see no reason why drop shipping products to the Campground would be any issue.

We can get this sorted on a one on one basis. Over the next few months, I'll be working on my final packing "KIT" and plans. (I'll try to start a new thread late Feb when we get back from the Indy Bike show) If anyone takes a look at our past travel rides you can see some pics of our setups.

Solo rides, I like packing with soft luggage. We have many options available with personal reviews on them. I'd be more than happy to help get anyone setup ahead of time. Please call or email as I don't want to clog this thread.

Best thing I can say is pack as light as you can - Easy to say, hard to do when it comes down to it. Something that takes years to learn. You can always get more socks and underwear if you "really' need them.

I feel the time line of being there Wed, would give us plenty of time to get products to the Campground by Fri if any last minute items were needed.

Most of our luggage suppliers are in the local states. Heck, we could ride over to Wolfman if need be.

I will contact the Campground Thurs or Fri and go over some of these questions and work forward from there. I don't want to upset them in any way or say "Yes" we can do this with out there permission.

Wait a minute.......

Only if KTM supplies a NEW 1190 R. That thing looks like it need AWD. Maybe with 75HP to each wheel we can get tires to last more than 500 miles?????

How about test rides, if this heap will make it that far?????
(Ride at your own risk - This is an unstable, highly modified POS)

At last year's KTM Rally (when we were at the quarry pit after the JL clinic) I was curious if those front bearings were going to make it all the way back to Wisconsin... but you didn't seem too concerned about it and obviously they did.

I was tempted to ask to ride it, but I didn't think you'd want to spend the whole afternoon waiting for me to figure out a way to get up and over that tall seat!

Hi CJ

If you have any problems with shipping, you can ship some stuff to me and I can bring it up to Steamboat. PM me if you need a hand. Of course like with all things around here, I can't guarantee that it would all make it to Steamboat in one piece ......... farkle taxes, quality control sampling.......
