lc4 hid light
i know there are a couple of you out there (flanny, curverider?) who converted your lc4 to hid lamps. what heat range did you install 5000?, 8000? is there any difference to the current they draw to fire? do they draw more current than halogen bulbs? any pics of your installs? where did you hide your ballasts?

I'm think I read they put them in the back of the air box.
That might have been on the LC4 not the Adventure. There might be more room up around the headlight cover (plastic) on the Adventure....I wouldn't think you'd want to constrict the airbox....these LC4 engines need lots of air. Jeff620RXC screwed with this post 09-23-2004 at 01:07 PM |

they're quite small, so i think i will tuck them up under the fairing by all the other electrics.

Anywhere in the 4100- 4500 K range is really good after that your getting bluer and from what I've learned the lighting gets poorer.
Flanny is right, the norm is 35 watts a lot less then Halogen's. Make sure you try and keep the ballast away from electronics, just ask Configureationspace about that one. I'll be doing a conversion on my 640 next week with a write up if your interested. |

Are you guys putting the HID bulb in your existing socket/reflector, or are you converting for a whole new light unit?
Reason I ask is that I was reading an article about the fashion among certain car customizers to switch bulbs - but the techs claimed that the HID bulb with a very intense point source with a different geometry than the OEM light, gave intense GLARE to others, but didn't usually throw better light on the road for the driver, when not using a reflector specifically intended for the HID bulb. Now on a bike, unlike cars, making yourself noticeable to others can often be a bigger consderation than lighting the road, but still I was wondering how you guys are handling the focus issue... -Vincent |

I'm basically replacing the stock bulbs with HID bulbs along with ballasts.
