And so we begin

On 12th May, Rick and I met up at the Ace Cafe in London, bikes loaded up ready for action, and made our way up to Terry's place, near Cambridge, where we would spend out first night. The ride started ominously. Rick got lost trying to find the Ace Cafe and then I ran out of fuel on the way to Terry's place. But we made it and settled in for some Indian take away.

The following morning, bright and early (about 6am) we had the bikes packed up, and loaded with 4 tyres each we made our way to the ferry port at Harwich, for the daily boat to Holland.

Why were we carying 4 tyres each you ask? a pair was to be carried to Poland and fitted just before we hit the dirt at the Ukraine border. Another set was to be dropped off in Holland, where one of the riders who would join us later would ship our spare tyres with them to Astana in Kazakhstan - our next tyre chance.

In the meantime, we would ride to Poland on whatever worn old tyres we had around.

Here's the morning start from Cambridge:

Wow, 10 pages in, I am already hooked, and Walter has just started the trip. You have quite a way of capturing our imaginations.

Thanks.

At a glance, it can be confusing. Mitas E09 and Michelin T-63 have nearly identical tyre threads.
