Day 18 - the evening

But it wasnt all fast and furious

In any case, Terry was certainly having fun:

Eventually, as the sun sank, we headed off to a village for a hotel and a few beers to celebrate being back on the road:

It would be a huge shame if it were ever to fall. Its a stunning sight, particularly at night or in winter ... or a foggy winters night. Naturally most of the pics of it are in summer, and in daylight ... which dont do it justice. So here she is:

In 2013 instead of Sevastopol the Bike Show should be held in this area.

Boring? I asked him.

Ok, then we will have to go faster yet .... until we reach a speed that is not boring.

Terry seemed to get the message, and never complained of the steppes being boring again. We just cranked it up to 130 km/h (80mph) on the GPS, which is over 140 km/h (85 mph) on the speedo. There's enough concentration going on at that speed for us not to be bored.

That's faster than my XC wants to cruise. I know you have posted it before, but I'd never be able to find it.. What sprockets were you running during these 80+ mph runs? Please,,, let's NOT start another sprocket discussion. It'll give me a headache.

Walter, another fantastic adventure.. Amazing! 100 days..

I have had it up to 155 km/h (96 mph) on the GPS (on an autobahn), but thats running a 16 tooth front sprocket.

At this point in the trip, we were both running stock sprocket sizes ... I had a 15t with my 18 inch wheel, and terry used a 16t with his 17 inch wheel, which pretty much exactly matches RPM to speed between the bikes. (we both were carrying a few sizes with us)

We both ran 47t rear sprockets

Day 19 - The need for speed

The trails gave us a lot of confidence ... smooth and predictable. We were soon cranking up the speed again:
