/5 Combination Switch Repair?

While chasing down electrical gremlins I noticed that my headlight switch only worked when the bars were turned at a certain angle. I pulled the switch and found this:

It's a little hard to tell, but the wires have pulled loose. They're contacting one another and shorting out when the cable is at certain angles. I need a way to push the wires back in secure them there.

Given that the replacement combination switches are a cool $100 apiece, is there any way to push the wires back in and secure them there? I found a combination switch repair article, but it only addresses cleaning the sweeper plate. I was able to follow the steps to pull the thumb button off, but didn't see any way to tighten all the wires up.

I'm guessing the answer is "suck it up cheapskate", but here's to hoping these things can be fixed.

Cool2 yes

Use a small soldering iron.
Be careful.
It should work.
BE CAREFUL. I was.
Good luck.

I refuse to believe a 3-position detented potentiometer with a push button isn't out there that drops right in. There has to be a number somewhere that corresponds to a pot code.

But yeah, solder it up.

It's not "a 3-position detented potentiometer".

My apologies. If not that, some rotary switch. It's just impossibly hard to believe BMW made it rather than bought it and build a housing around it.

Soldering the wires in worked a treat.

For those attempting this down the road, a few thing I learned: I had to crank my soldering iron up a bit further than I was comfortable with initially to get the solder in the switch melted. Once I dialed it in, the wires just popped right out. Still, the whole thing was an exercise in balance between keeping things hot enough to prevent a cold solder joint, but cool enough to not melt the plastic housing. The plastic didn't come away unscathed, but it worked nonetheless and saved me a hundo. Thanks.
