Putting GS rear suspension on a RS

A 1986 single shock suspension R100RS is for sale near me and the price is suitable. Since a proper GS is getting so expensive I'm thinking...Why not take off the fairing, put on a longer GS size shock and switch out the cast rims for spokes. Does anyone have any experience doing this and suggestions one way or the other? Any help appreciated, hopefully I'll be able to see this in person in a day or two.

The final drive on the g/s is completely different to the RS one. The g/s is a 3 bolt hub for and the drum depth is different. You would need a g/s bevel box and wheel. The swinging arm is different as well and then there's the front end.

Why not just keep it as it is and run it with the cast wheels. There are a few scramblerised monos on a thread somewhere in the airhead section.

If you want a airhead with some off road ability there is nothing wrong with a wire wheeled twin shock fitted with GS handle bars and knobbly tyres. A friend of mine did this to an ex-police R80RT for a tour of South America with me on my GS, it went everywhere the GS went with no problem, no need for long shocks or a 21" front wheel although a bash plate would have helped.
