Absolutely impossible to say. But looking at it from the other end: Stoner has not been dominant throughout the years he has been competing, so it is obviously not him.

A table of wins per season for 2006 to 2012, the seasons Stoner was competing in MotoGP:

Code:
	Rossi	Stoner	Lorenzo	Pedrosa
2006	5	0	0	2
2007	4	10	0	2
2008	9	6	1	2
2009	6	4	4	2
2010	2	3	9	4
2011	0	10	3	3
2012	0	5	6	6
total	26	38	23	21
Notes:

2006, Stoner was on a satellite LCR Honda
Lorenzo didn't enter the class until 2008

Other than his crashes/injuries/sickeness, I'd say he has been pretty dominant. Even in his rookie season aboard that Honda, he was as fast as anybody. I think he showed himself to be the fastest motorcycle road racer on the planet a long time ago. And riding a turnip truck to boot!

Take 2008 Laguna for example...he owned Rossi and Rossi knew it. Shit happens when it's like that. A simple brake check and it's his...

Nah, you got your head up your ass so far you need wipers on your belly button.

The red bike was definitely not known as a 'turnip truck' 5 years back, when they smoked everybody right from the beginning having 15-25 kms per hour more top speed than anyone else at Qatar main straight. The Japanese did not get it right straight away, when the 800 era started.

His world title with Ducati is an impressive achievement, though, and not likely to be repeated anytime soon.

If you read that table and still claim that he has been dominant, then I can't help you. Then you have no perspective whatsoever. He's been a contender, but last I checked my dictionary that meant something very different.

There are two seasons really far apart that stand out, but he was unable to follow each of them up. That's not dominance, no matter how much you play the blowing-sunshine-up-Stoner's-ass game.

Whatever point it is you are trying to make, if I agree to it will you shut up?

No, I won't as long as I feel like saying something. I won't chime in with your choir either, I could care less if differing opinions are annoying to you.

Top speeds from 2007 for all of the tracks with a long, fast straight. Best Ducati vs Best Yamaha. Speeds in kilometers per hour. Source, the Average Speed sheet for the race on the MotoGP.com website:

Code:
Track Ducati	Yamaha	Diff:
Qatar 316.3	305.7	10.6
Turkey 297.8	293.6	4.2
China 333.5	325.7	7.8
Mugello 323.1	311.2	11.9
Catalunya	314.0	307.3	6.7
Estoril 314.9	312.1	2.8
Sepang 299.4	294.8	4.6
A note on Mugello
Barros was fastest Ducati with a 323, only did one more 320, rest were 318s, Stoner 2nd fastest with 317.7

Stoner was only fastest Ducati about half the time. Rossi was fastest Yamaha every time but one.

No he doesn't suck, and yes the sport will miss him.. but I still really don't get, what is it, that all of a sudden made him the greatest EVER?? Is it "you're only as good as your last race" - well, his latest was undoubtedly a spectacle, but still there's two riders in front of him in points and race wins this year. Even if he had not injured himself, he could've found himself 3rd in the championship.

Winning on the Ducati.

EDIT: Does that make him the greatest ever? I don't know. But he's the most talented rider I ever saw.

2006, not just on a satellite Honda, which was clearly fast enough, but on 2nd/3rd string tyres.... otherwise, I think you'd agree Krop, things may have been a little different.

Got to see Freddie Spencer ride. I'd venture that he and Stoner were of the same mold. Just that overdose of talent, blinding you on how much more throttle they'd grab than anyone else.

So it's all good then. Everyone's happy. We won't see this for a long time, and we'll most likely see just the Union Jack before the Southern Cross or Stars and Stripes, but probably a swag of 'oil flags'. (humor, I love the Spanish...)
And looking at Casey's right one, elbow sliders all round.

Well done, son.
