Sandblast Rally 2012 faceplant
A little faceplant from last February at the Sandblast rally. Washed the front end out on the bike. Looks like plenty of time in the video but on the bike it felt instantaneous. Injury was a bloody skin tear that was not bad but bloody and a black eye. When I stand up you can see the blood dripping out of the helmet onto the sand.

Yeah it hurt and it was over quickly. I didn't get knocked out but it took a little while to gather my wits and figure out how to get up
![]() I should note that the injury was a result of the nose protector on my goggles. The protector didn't line up with the helmet so well so the goggles were position a little oddly. When I face plated the chin bar pushed the goggles into my cheek bone which in turn tore the skin. I had 3 or 4 scallop shaped scars on my cheek for quite a while.

Na, I was just pushing to hard on a bike I wasn't used to riding like that. The suspension setup and extra rear gas tank probably did not help. If I were a riding legend I probably wouldn't have crashed. I may be a legend but not a riding one :)

That is just the kind of stuff that happens in sand, or dirt riding really.
I did see the bad part coming up and might have gassed it or got over to the right though. It looks like you were going fast enough to be stable, its rare I ever fell at that speed in sand, most of my falls were at lower speeds when you had to slow down for whoops or a tree or something in the trail. Fun and easy at speed, till you have to slow down! |

Full throttle pinned and leaning back the bike just started slowing down because the sand got to soft and then the front fell of plane and started digging in and tank slapped me into oblivion. Happened in either 3rd or 4th pinned. Luckily it didn't hurt at all because the sand was so soft, but I had sand in everything. That's what I get for watching dust to glory to many times and thinking I was JC and my drz was an xr650r. |

sand crashes really ring the bell. It's almost like not having a helmet on.
