GPS Tracker for F800GS
Hello guys,
Today I bought my first motorcycle! The new BMW F800gs (alpine white) and I am feeling very happy:) I am wondering if there is some gps tracker device with sim card to be install. I want to track the location live from my pc or from my mob. Thank you in advance! ps. pics are comming soon!

You want to track your bike? Does it often leave home without you?
If you're talking about something in case the bike is stolen, maybe something like Lojack or Boomerang (do a google search) would work. Do you leave your bike outside unattended in a high-theft area? Or did I misunderstand you completely? Enjoy your new bike! I'm waiting for mine (to arrive by the start of next season). Cheers! Quote:

yes I want to be able to track my bike because I leave my bike in an open parking and it is not very secure. I know that this may be too protective but its my first bike and I want to secure it. :)
thank you I will google it :) Quote:

If the bike is put in a truck or in a garage you can't track it any more, so the usefulness is rather limited.
If you want to secure it I would strongly recommend an alarm disc brake lock with a chain. This way they have to cut the thick chain before they can put it in a truck, and it's going to make a lot of noise while they are cutting. Of course nothing is impossible to steal but I have never heard of anybody getting a bike stolen with one of those, too much of a pain for thieves when there are so many easier to steal bikes.

You could have ordered it with a factory alarm, so if someone moves the bike, you'll hear it.. The dealer can still add the alarm, the bike is prewired for it. Between the immobilizer, alarm's flashing red light and a heavy chain, thieves may find an easier target.

I know two guys who have the factory alarms on BMWs (one R12 and one F8) and both have disconnected them because they are a pain in the ass because they give false alarms all the time and will shut down after a couple of days anyway in order not to drain the battery.
No problems of that kind with the alarm brake disc lock, plus it's cheaper and you can just move it from bike to bike.

Get a KLR cover for the bike! Just kidding.. but I would get the oldest, dirtiest, nastiest cover I could find for the bike with no brand markings. Maybe an old well used painters tarp. Then use a chain and alarm. GH

If you have GSM coverage the cheap Chinese trackers work quite well for the money. Just like a mobile phone you send it an SMS and it returns its GPS coords and you open them in Google maps. Loads of people have put them in camper trailers etc over here so they can locate them if they get stolen. http://www.ebay.com/itm/GPS-GSM-GSM-...item19d65f1e8c

I knew a guy with a Camaro that was stolen. It was recovered, and the insurance company paid to put it back together. That car was never the same. Think "deterrent" not "recovery".

The bike in question is brand new. I can't imagine why anyone would buy a brand new F8 and not have insurance on it. Regardless, my point is that PREVENTION is always a better option than RECOVERY.

My insurance company can give me only "third party" coverage and not full because I live in a high risk area... I bought my f800 with alarm as extra but I wanted something more.. I might go with the abus disc lock with chain solution and with the pre-installed alarm system I believe I did everything I can :)

I have already installed this http://www.amasystems.be/?page=amaeasy&lang=EN additionally with the OEM alarm.
It has passive arming so there is no interfere with the can bus circuit of the bike. |

Thank you all for your suggestions. My F800 is amazing and very beautiful! I decided to use a disc lock combined with a gps tracker ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/Portable-Min...item3f1c9cf318 ) |
