2 days and 700 miles on a Speed Triple
A few weeks ago I bought a Speedy 3 somewhat on a whim. I had test ridden one and knew I loved it but my brain was looking for a bonnie/scrambler.
My room mate and I had been planning a trip up to the Sequoias for some time and I was going to take my BMW.... but now I HAD to take the Triple. He has a pretty well looked after Honda 599 which is a bike that i think has been overlooked by the American market. It's a great little bike. 5am - half asleep and trying to get the wheels up ![]() ![]() We leave Los Angeles and take some twisties up to the Tehachapi wind farm by dawn. No pics taken because it was about 30 and I was freezing my balls off being so spoiled by the Beemers heated grips and other comfy amenities.... Our first stop was one of a billion gas stops seeing as the Speed goes about 90 miles before needing fuel... ![]() ![]() ![]() Chris was freezing too ![]() from there we headed up Caliente-Bodfish to Kernville - again sorry no pics because there was no freakin way im upzipping my jacket under 60 degrees. ![]() They were having some kind of car show that day.... ![]() ![]() it started to warm up so I started shooting a bit ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps46fa3391.jpg Chris tests the camouflage properties of his Fieldsheer jacket ![]() my home for the weekend http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps688d526d.jpg ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() took a little hike to see how a Giant Sequoia shatters when it hits the ground. ![]() ![]() some seriously big trees ![]() ![]() stopped in Springville for burgers and gas ![]() ![]() Sequoia national park ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I was hoping to wait a little while longer before having to take the Speedy III off road.... not my choice for the dirt. I have a KTM for this... ![]() ![]() Montecito Lodge where we stayed the night ![]() ![]() ![]() off and running for day two http://i848.photobucket.com/albums/a...psbf87ba61.jpg ![]() lots of massive trees ![]() ![]() about 500 miles in.... getting tired ![]() time for sandwich ![]() ![]() headed back... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So all in all we did just shy of 700 miles in two days. The Triple performed brilliantly. The previous owner had geared it WAYYY down and I didnt understand that until I got on the freeway for more than 10 minutes and realized at 75 it was at about 5500. I need to go down about two teeth in the back and I think that will fix it. Either way it was a blast and the Trip is a surprisingly comfortable sport touring mount! ![]() - cheers

Although, I feel like a jerk riding a bike that noisy through a national forest..... I could hear it echoing through the trees sometimes.
