Buy a cheap KLR for the commute, keep the XT for the weekends. Ask Masterchief or anyone he's ridden with.

Year round riding here. Just get good gear.
If you are going from Tacoma to Bremerton than you will be going over the Narrows Bridge. Lot's of wind in the winter. Heavier bike would be better. 225 will do okay.

Make sure if you pass Maddady that you hit the should for a while with some lane splitting afterward while wearing shorts and sandals

I commute the opposite way on the same roads.
Would I do it on my XT225? No Way. I have no desire to be an obstacle on the highway.
