Posties in the Flinders
We set off on Thursday 11th October for the annual South Australian Apex Outback Postie Bike Ride through the magnificent Flinders Ranges. The event raises money to develop holiday cabins to be known as the Apex Copper Coast Retreats on Yorke Penninsular where people effected by cancer can spend quality time with family for no cost during a most trying time in their lives. The event started in 2007 when 7 of us dickheads rode our Postie bikes (Honda CT110's for you overseas inmates) over the toughest tracks SA has to offer. Since 2007 the ride now attracts about 80 riders each year, this year we raised $97,000 and close to $340,000 in total since 2007.
We left to one of the coldest day's on record. We were originally going off road from the start but due to the wet clay tracks which stop the Posties with low mudguards in their tracks we had to take the tar to Quorn. I have never been so cold on a motorbike in all my life, it snowed, snow I tell you, 20 kms from Port Augusta in the middle of October! The view from one of the back up cars ![]() From Quorn we went over Yarra Vale Gorge, out past Proby's Grave to Simmonston, then onto Bobby Creek road to Hookna Creek for lunch ![]() ![]() ![]() After lunch the weather started to fine up, happy days. We hit the Moralanna Scenic track to Wilpena Pound for fuel then onto Parachilna via Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges, ![]() More to come.......

The lead rider decided to call into the Para pub but didn't put a cornerman there so most got to Angorichina by beer o'clock. There was a bit of a line up for fuel

Snow
Hi Kipo,
Wal and I are coming up to the Flinders for a few days in the first week in November. I am hoping to escape the wet cold weather, so can you contact the BOM and put in a request for no snow for that week please. We were coming for about 7-10 days, but unless it rains up Kaniva way soon, Wal needs to be home on the farm tending to the needs of the crop. Actually while you are talking to the BOM guy can you request that the coastal weather be sent inland by 300 Km please. We are getting Vitmain D deficient down here. Good photos and good effort for fund raising! |
