2 views of Alaska - Venus/Mars thing

As Bob and I (Barb) view our travels so differently we decided to each write our own version. This is my 1st blog attempt even though we haven't started our trip yet. June we set off. These past weeks we have been for several short camping trips to State Parks to iron out problems, test out our gear and pack and unpack on our motorcycles. Only in fine weather so far. As we have our own motorcycles so we take what we need in the way of extras. My ukelele is coming and my songbook. Loading up the Kindle with books although there may not be much time for reading with all the walks we have planned en route. Looking forward to hitting the road after so much planning.

Our trip that wasn't

I thought I should update you on why our blogs came to a grinding holt. On the 12 June after a wonderful start to our trip to Alaska taking 2 months we took a side trip to the Badlands of South Dakota. The road we were on was paved then became gravel. Thick gravel with ridges all over it and patches of loose sand. My husband gave me advice on how to ride but the fear was building as I watched one of our friends weaving almost falling on the surface ahead of me. Before I knew it I had high sided and found myself face down on the gravel with the bike planted on my legs. One of the Jessie bags had been ripped off and I had a broken femur. All that planning by Bob now on hold.
At 3 months the Dr gave me the go head to ride again as the break was healing well. I acquired a new bike, the same model and make as before with only 1400 miles on the clock. I am going to steer clear of hard bags as Bob thinks the bag might have had something to do with the break but as no-one witnessed the accident it is only theory.
We are still planning to do Alaska in 2013 and we will continue with the blog.
